Seti up and running

I just installed seti and it is crunching away. If I was interested in giving your team credit for my wu's how do I go about it?
Can you run the cancer research distributed computing along with seti?. I have 1 gig celerons shuttle sv24 that doesnt do much
but. I feel the priority should be for the Cancer research. As cancer is tangible and we know it exists. I dont know anyone who hasnt
been touched in some way by it.
So how do I direct my wu's toward your team total?

To join the TeAm go here! 😉 You can run SETI and UD at the same time, and because UD will take longer, you'll get more points per WU. Last but not least, Welcome to the TeAm! 😀

Welcome aboard!! Whichever distributed computing task you choose is just fine, we're glad you're part of the TeAm.

🙂

Welcome to the TeAm.

With all the problem Berkeley was having lately, I suggest using a caching program like SETI Driver.

Goodluck.

man am I dissapointed. I am running seti on Kr7a and 1700 at 1544 and at the current rate It is gonna take 20hrs to do a wu.
wirelessenabled just posted that he is doing a wu in 8hrs. and he is running a 800mhz cpu. I guess something is better than nothing.
But man is my machine lame LOL!

It sounds like your running the GUI, follow the instructions in the SETI link in my sig to install the CLI. The CLI will give you WAY better times! 🙂

will do. I am on dsl and when i installed the Gui version it just took off and started doing its thing. how do I ensure it dont get more wu's and how do ensure all the wu's it got (idontknow how many) are processed b4 I uninstall it.?

I think the GUI downloads one WU at a time. I would just uninstall it, SETI reissues the WUs anyway.

Also, if you actually generate the graphics on the GUI, it takes even longer. So, as a stopgap measure, you could run the client minimized /w a "blank screen" screen saver. Just that should cut you down to < 10hrs / wu.

Greetings! I have just crunched my first wu in 3.35 hrs. but cli wasnt able to connect. I Dl'd seti driver and installed it and launched it but it can't make contact with seti either.. If I leave it on will it retry perodically or do I have to keep trying to connect.
If I do get connected how many units should I set the seti driver for 40 cause there is no tellin when I am gonna be able to get in again?
Or does that exaserbate the situation my monopolizing to much server time.. If everybody thought that way we might never get in LOL
Oh and how long after i submit my wu will i be able to view my stats?.
Thanks for you answers in advance.

The SETI server run really slow and drop many connections during the day, that's pobably why you can't send/receive WUs. You should be able to view your stats now TeAm stats & Individual stats. Since you already have a SETI account, you might be able to get WUs from a TeAm proxy, See the list of proxies here.

as I am a newbie I will keep trying to manualy connect until I get in.. I wouldnt know how to go about the proxie thingy. When I get it figured out I am gonna install Seti on my 1ghz shuttle sv24 home entertainment machine also.

To us a proxy:

<< To use Orange Kid's proxy, open SetiDriver.exe. Select "Proxy Server". Under "Host", enter orangekid.teamanandtech.com. Under "Port", enter 5001. Then click "Save Config" and re-minimize the program! If you are not using the SETI Driver, simply add this line to the end of the shortcut you use to run the CLI: -proxy orangekid.teamanandtech.com:5001 >>

Instructions taken from teriba.com

The instructions list Orange Kid's proxy, but you can use anyone you wan't, just substitute Orange Kid's address and port w/ the address and port of the proxy you want to use. 😉

WELCOME to the TeAm DIRTsquirt!!

Don't be afraid to ask for help, there's a bunch of great folks here that will help you out. 🙂

does
Please type:
1 to set up a new account (first-time users);
2 to log into an existing account (returning users).
Your choice (1 or 2): 2
Email address: dirt@wcgl.net
connect: no such file or directory
does this mean I am doing something wrong or have it setup wrong. or is it simply that the server is so plugged up it isnt responding to me?

Welcome 🙂

Sounds like the server is plugged.

Try a proxy. Orange Kid has one here:

orangekid.teamanandtech.com
port: 5001

Good thing with a proxy is that it downloads WUs from berkeley and stores them ready for you, so they should be available for download. Also since OK isnt as 'plugged' as Berkeley, you can always upload WUs.

I couldnt connect to orange's proxie. so I went back to the original.. I will dl 20 wu's and jsut make a habit of doin my server business in the middle of the night.

Welcome aboard DIRTsquirt!

If you're using Seti driver, just set it to the # of wu's you want to have in your queue and click auto transmit and it will take care of it for you when ever Berkeley lets you through. 🙂

That was short lived. I have completed 10 WU's but am worried about the temp my comp is running
I is running at 54c at full load with 29c inlet.
I have ordered a sk6 from newegg. and will resume crunching when I get it installed.
should I be worried about such a high temp?

Hi Dirtsquirt,
I have a similar setup Kr7a raid with 1700+ at 1529mhz 1 stick of 512megs crucial pc2100 ram.
My times are about 4.5 hrs per wu. Can you give me your ram timing so I can see if I can get my times down.

I have 2 crucial 256mb sticks. Post for me your temps and what heatsink you are using. I am running 140fsb with a 10.5 multiplier
dram clock 133
by spd
cas2
bank interleave disabled
precharge to ac 3T
6T
3T
auto
40?
LO
4 level
2T command
auto.
I know I should set this manualy and run the dram clock up to 140 also but it is stable and running smoothly. And plenty fast for now
ps thanks for makin me look. I thought I was running 1540. I have made so many changes I lost track. Cant imagine 100mhz will make that much difference so I will wait till I get the sk6 to bump it up
