SETI Times for 875 chipset

BadThad

Lifer
I'm building a customer system with the following:

Abit IC7
P4 2.4C (800 fsb)
2 x 512MB (1 GB) Corsair PC3500 Platinum

The fsb has been at 200 mostly, I've been just playing around low level gradually increasing the fsb. Currently it's at a conservative 205 MHz while I burn the system in and check for problems. CPU is at default voltage 1.525v with an Intel stock cooler/thermal pad with HT enabled. RAM is 1:1 at 2-8-3-3. Using SETI Driver processing 2 wu's similtaneously, Win XP SP1, v3.03 CLI.

Average of 8 wu's = 3:34

Longest 0.431AR 3:41:14
Shortest 1.522AR 2:55:13

Not sure. A wild guess would be around 2:30 -2:15. I dunno if I want to see at this pace, lol. I think the times are pretty good considering there's 2 processes.

It just crunched 2 more and the times were identical at 3:37:07 even though they were different AR's....odd.

I'm gonna crank up the fsb once it's burned in for another 24 hours. Keeping my fingers crossed, not sure what it will be able to reach. RAM is rated at 434MHz so theoretically 217 fsb should be possible. If I go to the 5:4 ram divider, it should do 3GHz...more to come. 🙂

Cool! ,nice rig!😀

Btw I thought we came to the conclusion that SETI would not benefit from HT & therefore you'd be better off running just 1 client?

I reckon single client WU times could go quite a bit below 2hrs!:Q

ahhhh....who concluded that? As I recall, Barbary was an early experimenter with HT and he showed it was good. It adds a little time, but you get 2 for 1!!!

No matter, I'll be reporting in what I get soon. 🙂

I just upgraded to a similar setup.
How do you do the two processes at once?

BTW
I've seen 3 different systems now all running the 2.4C at 3 GHz default voltage.
Mine is also.
The cpu dropped in price this week and should be under $190 by the end of this week at online retailers.
My IC7 cost me $140, so for around $330 you can a really fantastic system.
I think this is the best bargain out there right now for performance per dollar.
I had my system running at 3.3, but because of ambient temps in the house now, I haven't turned on the air yet, I dropped it back down to 3 Ghz.

I'll let you guys know the outcome of my pc when I add watercooling later this month. I have a large paycheck coming up dedicated to the water cooling 🙂

Simply run SETI DRIVER and it see's an HT cpu as a dual.

I increased the voltage to 1.550 after WinXP booted and told me "A serious error has occured and the system restored" ....or something like that. A little bump in voltage and it's happy now.

Someone on this forum stated that you would get better results from HT by running two different DC projects, instead of the same one twice. Just wondering.

That would make sense JW. No matter, after a couple more days of running 2 seti processes, I'll change over to single process and let everyone know how it comes out. In the mean time, my SETI stats are rocking, I hit over 80 wu's yesterday, hehehe. I'm loving this PC.

I think it was confused who said that

You and networkman, hehehe.
😛

How about this from yesterday.....17 wu's completed in 24 hours!!!. The average is around 3 hours per wu.

....testing continues.

LOL...I guess you can break it down that way too. Or... 24/3 = 8 x 2 = ~16 wu's. It's sweet no matter how you look at it! 😀

I just increased the fsb a weebit to 255 MHz, DDR is 408 MHz now....there's still some room. 🙂

I got my new system running SETI last night.

Xoxide LL Warrior Case (Lian Li PC-61 USB with extra fans)
ANtec True 430w Power Supply
IC7-G Mobo
P4 2.8c (800MHz FSB)
2x Corsair PC3500C2 512MB RAM
Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy2 Platinum
ATI Radeon 9700
Seagate Barracuda 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
Plextor CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD drive
Floppy Drive
Enermax UC-A5FATR2 Thermal Control Panel

Haven't OCed anything yet. Doing WUs in about 1:45.

Any single WU times yet?

Sorry, I was estimating. I fired up SETIWatch to verify. First work unit was around 2:25, after that, so far I have

1:51
1:51
2:12
2:24
2:12
2:14

I am now at 42% after roughly 1:15.

This sucker screams. Once I get Ghost installed, I'll dabble in OC'ing. I have a temp probe taped to the top edge of the plastic CPU cooler bracket. It is detecting ~103 degrees F during SETI production.

Any single WU times mate?

Not yet, I'm gonna keep running HT for a few more days....I still THINK running 2 processes is the way to go. I'll verify soon enough.

Crank that FSB!!! I have the same ram in this system and it's running fine at 255 MHz fsb.....more to come! 🙂

I have never OCed anything before. I am going to take baby steps and learn all I can. Do you have a good suggestion of where to start learning? How about a sample process for a conservative overclock on this system (for example, don't you modify RAM settings as the FSB gets adjusted)? I want to learn, but I don't want to damage a very expensive system via my ignorance. I just bought a new motorcycle also, so between the two expensive new toys, I am on Ramen noodles and water for the remainder of the summer. 🙂
