Seti: The Crack Rack will need a new home

First let me say that I owe a great debt of gratitude to Wirelessenabled for hosting my rack for the past 9-10 months! He has been kind enough to help me out by hosting the rack in his store's computer room. He received some good news the other day that the money to remodel his store has been approved, however this means that they will be cutting the size of the computer room down considerably so he will no longer have the space to host my rack. Luckily this will not be going down for a couple of months so I have some time to find a new home.

With my impending marriage in June, I don't have the room to host it here at the house so I am looking for someone who can. Please feel free to reply here or PM me if you think you can and I will be glad to discuss any questions you might have.

Thanks

(Edit) I guess it would be nice to tell you some details. The rack is composed of 13 nodes of Athlon XP 1800s each with their own power supply, hard drive with everything else built on the motherboards (mATX form factor). There is a 24 port 10BT 3com switch as well.

How much room is needed? Maybe some pictures would help? What's the current physical location?

Well it does take up some room. You have 13 MicroATX motherboards with power supplies and hard drives. Currently it is located in the State of Washington, but any freight would be paid for by me of course. I will check with Jim to see if he has any current pictures :)

Are we talking about regular enclosures (cases)?

For instance, if you had a counter ... how long will it have to be to hold 'em all?

Hi Crazee.
How big of a UPS would be needed to keep them up with a blip in the power?

:)

PICS ??? :D

Hope you find a home soon!! I already have my "heaters" running.

Just glad the weather is still staying cool (45-65 degrees) so I don't have to fire up the AC.

I'll be more than happy to host it Crazee. Just get it up to Atlanta. I have more than enough spare room in my new house, as you no doubt know......

I dare ya to come visit ;)

Crazee, the offer stands. If you can get the rack to GA ( and I will try my best to make sure Dave and Bot can stop by, and you can also put in with Dave McOwen, etc., here), I will commit to hosting it. We could have a pretty good party going I think! :)

I'm still hoping to drop by Georgia some time this summer - gotta pick up a whole bunch more pecans as well as visiting numerous TA comrades in the area. :)

To answer the questions: No cases involved with these babies. The way I have always had them setup was on vertical shelves. It takes up a lot less room.

As far as a UPS goes it would take a pretty big one, that is why I don't have one for all of them. It would be far too expensive.

Van, it sounds like a plan :) It will be awhile before it has to be moved, I will keep the thread open for any backup possibilities just in case your circumstance change :)

So what length of counter would be needed? :p :)

It would have to be pretty long. Each motherboard is about 9.5" wide (242mmX242mm is mATX Standard). You would have to have space either in front, behind or to the side of each motherboard for a power supply and hard drive. A flat counter would need to be at least 10 1/2 FT long (provided it is deep enough to put the power supply and hard drive behind or in front of the motherboard).

Sorry Will, I don't have a space that can handle it. :(

I can guarantee no change of circumstances. Unless I decide to sell house :D

I'd love for us to have an Atlanta-area gathering/party!! :) We can use Crazee's-Crack Rack re-hosting as a pretty good excuse! :) :D

MMMM.....if I were out on my own and wouldn't be submitting my parents to the power bill, i'd host it for ya, but I don't think they'd be too happy about it.
