user DMMD from seti.usa tried to change our team founder on feb 5, most likely with the desire to move our TeAm to his team.

1. Greg, do you know about this?
2. How do we stop crap like this?
3. Is anybody a good enough hacker, um, I mean, computer expert, to ensure that a**holes like this stay away from our TeAm?

Good catch, Bryan.

Issue has been fixed. ;)

For everyone's information, we have three administrators who have "Founders Access" in addition to myself.

Assimilator1
Crazee
Wiz

I guess each of us has been assuming that one of the other guys is checking into the Founders Account to catch such stuff. All that's needed is to check the founders email account. We need to be more vigilant.

Additional Info

I have had back surgery to install a SCS (Spinal Cord Stimulator). I'm about 8 weeks out and am getting close to full recovery from the procedure. So far .... so good.

I look in several times each day to read everyone's posts here in the DC Forum and I also do the same for the Hot Deals Forum and the Mod Forum. I'm just not posting as much.

:wine: Cheers

:)

Re SETI

I've recieved no email about team founder changer request.
What's going on there? (actually I can't even remember where I'd check out such things ).

Bryan
Good catch, how did you find out?

Greg
Good to hear you're doing well so far :)
Is the SCS active yet?

Assimilator1,

Yes the SCS is working and I'm still going on that trip to China next month. I hope the pain associated with the operation completely subsides before then. Fingers crossed.

Check PM for instructions on checking the TeAm AnandTech Email Account.

:)

I have sent a personal message to the SETI.USA Founder.

I haven't been following the TeAm much lately, what with words like "bankruptcy" and "government bailout" being thrown around chrysler corporation these days... so, I finally checked in the other day on the TeAm Anandtech Seti@home page (you can access it by opening the boinc manager/projects/your team). I noticed on that page that there was a "Team foundership Change" message, so I clicked on the link. I checked it because I remember reading 6 mos ago or so about other boinc-related project members trying to "steal" accounts.

Anyway, I'm glad that we got it resolved.

It's not SETI@home, but I did get an automatic email about "transfer foundership" a couple weeks ago on LHC@home, but on clicking on the link in the email it showed "already cancelled" due to user had switched to another team...

Well, if you could really call it an "user" at all, since he joined LHC@home the same day he asked to become the founder  and he haven't even managed to attach a computer to LHC@home yet...

In any case, while you should in theory always get the "team-transfer"-email-message, in case a project runs older server-code from the "wrong" period, you won't get any email-message if you've not specified to get email-messages. Also, AFAIK the default is now of no email-message, and AFAIK once-upon-a-time there was even an update that switched everyone to "no message"...

So, just to make certain, double-check that you can get email-messages on any teams you're the founder...

Oh, and of course, use an email-address that gets checked atleast once per month or something...

I started a thread on the seti forums about this. One of the mods came on and wrote the following:

1) Only a member of the team is able to request a team founder change.
2) The founder change request is supposed to be annulled if the person making the request changes teams again.
3) If the team founder has his settings to send emails for project notifications, he will get an email stating a team founder change request has been made.
4) The team founder change has a 2 month delay built in to allow for response from founders that are on vacation.

so it looks like we were never in any danger, anyway. Also, a couple of seti.usa members came on and mentioned that the guy was new to the team in feb 09. Hopefully this was just a bad seed, or, heaven forbid, maybe a t-sip.

Hope everything is going ok with the back. Still crunching for Enterprise.

Have a great trip to China. If you need a porter you know how to contact me.

Done :)

BTW, one of the seti.usa admins wrote me back. He questioned DMMD about this and DMMD claimed he didn't and wouldn't do such a thing.

I expressed my appreciation to the admin for looking into the situation. The seti.usa team seems to be very good people and as far as I'm concerned the case is closed.

I think we just need to take this little dust-up as a wakeup call. ;)
