Ok I plan on using one of the TeAm service installs but I need some specific how to's and maybe modifications. I am going to install it on a large network but I only have local admin rights not domain admin. So I doubt the Flex installer will work. I don't have a problem going to each computer to install. What I need though is for some way to have the service stop/pause when task manager is open. Either that or a service that doesn't show up as "usage" when Task manager is open. I might be able to get away with the service being named something similar to Idle Processes but the admins don't want it noticable to the average user.

So any help would be appreciated. I am looking at hooking up at least sevreral hundred P4 2.4's and about double that in P3 1.0's so please help me make this as easy as possible.
 
SetiHide is the only "handler" I know of that will pause when you open TaskMgr.

Not sure if/how you can do that over a network. It also has either local or networked caching of Work Units

As Confused has already mentioned, SetiHide would be a good way to go.

Can't offer any additional advice on how to install it on a network but I'm sure you will get very efficient after a few machines when you start doing them one at a time. 😛 😀

This would really be awesome. So I hope it can be worked out.

I have installed SetiHide on a few machines and have named the folder, "Critical Systems", so as to deter the occasional searcher who looks at the Task Manager to see what's going on. The CPU Usage will still give it away to the curious soul. 😉

It is a great little program. They keep talking about a service install version coming out but I doubt that will happen this late in the game.

 
I am currently using SetiHide on some of the systems now. But it is cumbersome for installs. I have to install Firedaemon and then set up Setihide. It takes about 20-30 minutes of time. I would prefer something that takes under five and is easy, i.e. run one file.
 
OK I forgot to mention the last part of my problem. The network is running NT 4.0 🙁.

I am going to try shux's install and doctor it a bit to name it something else. Like I said a service version of Seti Hide would be really nice. But for now it is just too time consuming.

Which install arew we talking about? The network installer? I have been wondering about adding a setihide "component" to it as a service....

I have started using your win2k/NT installer. I couldn't use the network one due to I can only log on locally as administrator I do not have domain admin rights. Therefore inorder to use the network install I would have to locally log in and put my Domain login as a admin. In the time it would take to do that, I can just use the other installer. It would be nice though to see a service addon for SetiHide. LMK if you need a test platform for it. I could easily try that on my home network of 10 computers.
