curious if anybody else is experiencing this or is it just my comp, 20+ hours and its only 45%, normally does it in 10 hours for whole thing

Are you running the screensaver version of the client with the graphics? That'll really slow it down. Go into the screensaver properties, and set the SETI screensaver to go to blank screen within 5 minutes or so. If you want to get the most speed possible, I suggest using SETIDriver to cache work units, and running the CLI client. Info on that can be found here.

Also, are you on Team AnandTech? I don't recognize your name. And, what are the specs for the PC you run SETI on? That'll help us determine what your normal work unit times should be.

no, i'm not a member of team anandtech, i do know that my comp normally does wu in about 10 hours, but now its looking about 40 hours for a wu, i run the client in the background all the time, and its not even the screensaver

Hi tyski, Not knowing the detail of your system or SETI Software, I would suggest you reboot your system. I had a WU do the same on a couple of machines and a reboot fixed it. Don't know why! If that doesn't do it, then you need to give us more info.

Good luck!

We seem to have been writting at the same time! 🙂😀 So, try the reboot...it will take a while to know if that does it.

i rebooted but i don't think that's it, since i've rebooted since this wu has started (i have the latest version, i guess this wu could just be one that has a lot of triplets to scan (or whatever they call what seti does); now that i think about it though, my problems with seti coincide with another problem that my comp has just developed -- the reeeally slow opening of Outlook Express (it takes about 5 minutes for my Outlook Express to open), i wonder if I have some sort of driver conflict somewhere? but i don't see the connection between seti and outlook express and the fact that all my other programs run correctly

This doesnt sound like the problem, but i've had SetiDriver spaz out before and have multiple clients running simultaneously (not on the same work unit)..sometimes 2 or 3 clients processing, and another one trying to upload a result, and continually crashing/retrying. had to delete the entire ## folder to get it to stop.

G.

edit: ACK! sooo many aliens on this page... 😉

When's the last time you did a full virus scan? Spontaneous slowing down of your system could be a sign of either a virus or potential hardware failure, so I'd recommend doing a full scan as soon as can to rule out that possibility...

Hi 🙂
What version of SETI were you using to get 10hr WU times?

If you want to check to see if something else is hogging your cpu time then use this ,ATM.
