Yesterday we were all at the finish line waiting for Serialb to complete his race! Our patience paid off and he has made it too the checkered flag! Congrats Serialb on a race well run!

I hope this is not to personal but here is what Ohio sent me about his Trip.
From Ohio
My dad (who passed away in 1985), served aboard a Destroyer Escort, the USS Rich DE695, that was lost at Normandy off Utah beach after striking two mines on June 8th, 1944, two days after D-Day. 89 of her crew were killed. My dad was injured and received a Purple Heart.
Two years ago, I found a picture my dad had taken of the Rich when she was launched back in 1942 and posted it on the navsource.org website. This is a website run by Paul Yarnell that has the largest collection of photos of naval vessels on the internet. A couple of the crew members from the Rich saw the photo (yes, these old folks have PC's and surf the internet) and eventually tracked me down and kind of "adopted" me into their family.
The remaining survivors and their families (they're less than 30 left) have a reunion each year on the anniversary of the USS Rich's sinking, June 8th. This year it's in Myrtle Beach. That's where I'm going.
