Milestones achieved on 6/2:

4D Konsulenterne A/S - 10000 (10005) (We all know him as soni ;) )
Curt Oien - 1500 (1501)
rchala - 500 - (502)
-------------------------------------------------

ElFenix continues his relentless march towards his 3500 personal goal.

RaySun2be picks up another two spots while Toft / Vold - DK leaves four more Team Anandtechers sniffing his fumes.

mgpaulus is beginning to pull away from Maku and Fardringle in the Race to 2000 while cakin struggles to keep pace.

Holy Moly!!! :Q What just got into def? If this is a permanent assimilation, the Race to Catch def just ended and Team Anandtechers occupying positions 66 and up had better start watching their backs!

Congratulations to soni on achieving the 10,000 wu milestone! What an achievement! :D Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame at the Berkeley site:http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/10000.html

-------------------------------------------------

As always, let me know of any new challenges.

O.D. Thanks for the stats.

ElFenix, the tropico demo is on my download list for tonight. Is it that good? How does it compare with Age of Empires? I'm still trying to complete all the AofE levels on the medium setting. I need a break, one episode has been kicking my backside for two weeks! So I thought I might try tropico for a while.

BTW...does anyone have any experience OCing P3-650 or 750's. I am going to buy the dual ECS d6vaa, then buy some 100 fsb chips and try to push them to 133. I wonder which ones will make the step from 100 to 133 the easiest.

Thanks OD!

Looks like Def doesn't want to get caught! :Q

cakin: I've had the best luck with PIII-700e. My 650 didn't do as well. :( Stepping cC0 best chance for good OC, then cB0, stay away from cA0 (if they are even still around).

Great stats OhioDude, keep em coming. :)

cakin, the 700E usually shows the best promise from all the reports I've read. My own 700E cCo stepping will only do 124fsb however.BTW, Seti is not optimized for smp, and will not make full use of your dual rig. My tyan tiger w/800E's only does about 5 1/2 a day. These processors are not overclocked. It is extremely stable however and that counts for a lot with Seti. :)
Let me know how you like the new board. I'm getting the itch to build another rig. Good luck with the new project. :)

Phiton,

While seti isn't smp enabled, I plan to use W2Kpro with seti's running in different directories, each bound to its own cpu. With W2Kpro my P3-667 avg WU time is 7H 37m. So I figure I should get at least 7 to 8 seti per day with OC'ing.

Since the D6VAA is only $80 I am thinking about getting 4 of them to setup in a rack, something like Kilowatt has setup. I will only need a video card and floppy during setup. Then I can use something like VNC to check on them after that. or if I can find a cheap terminal server or something like that so I can use the serial ports instead of adding ethernet cards.

$320 for 4 motherboards
$800 for 8 CPU's (buy one each pay day)
$125 for 8 heatsinks w/fans
$100 for 4 PSU's
$100 for 4 small hard drives
$280 for 4 256MB CAS2
====
$1725 for hardware before ethernet and software for 24-30 WU's a day.
My goal is to take up as little space as possible, I have a left over stereo rack I can put it all in. I figure the entire setup will take less than half the rack. During the summer I will park the rack over the incoming a/c vent.

I only wish this was a permanent assimilation!!! :D

Just a lil' dump to show Max that the El Camino still has some juice in it. :)

Thanks for the congrats guys!

Cakin,

If you have no intentions of actually using these computers for anything other than Seti, you can probably just skimp on the RAM and HD's big time. 64MB of RAM should be more than enough for a stripped down W2K boot + Seti. Seti only takes up 16MB of physical memory, so anymore that isn't used is really a waste.

The HD's could all be way less than 1 GB. Might want to start cruising the FS/Trade forum to look at getting someone's old clunkers. Ya might be able to shave some money off those HSF prices too. If these are going to be in an open environment, no point in getting beefy cooling. Just the simplest, cheapest HSF you can find will probably get the job done since P3's don't put out alot of heat, even OC'd.

Should start spitting out a ton of WU's once ya get 4 duallie jobbers crunching away. :)

Cakin
I have a slot 1 PIII 650 cBo stepping with a rather modest size HSF (Globalwin VNS04) ,I run it at 820 with 1.73v ,it does run at 878 MHz with more voltage ,but Im get wierd corrupted fonts ,could be beause of AGP bus though due to the board having a BX chipset ,one other thing the S370 (FCPGA) cpu's have a much better choice of HSF then the slot 1 ,as I found out :(.

Sounds like you're gonna be real crankin them WU's out soon!:)

cakln - i didn't play AoE so i really can't compare, of the games i've played its pretty much closest to sim city using an island map. the game is pretty addictive, maybe not as so as serious sam, but its still a serious waste of processor time. and VNC does not work without a graphics card. it simply repeats the graphics that are sent out or something like that. newegg had new mobile rage 4s or something for like $20 a pop, you can probably find used cards cheaper but its hard to find new ones for less.
