For the second day in a row, the winner's circle will remain empty and the lovely race babes will have to wait beside the winner's hottubs in their respective lounges.
Growing bored with his earlier established goal of 20,000 by June 1st, networkman has decided to up the ante. Changing his utlimate destination by 1000 wu's was still not enough of a challenge, so NWM has decided to set the bar even higher, all the way up to 22,000 by June 1st. The newly extended goal puts added pressure on NWM to maintain his recently increased production at or above the 69 wu per day mark and he appears to be well on the way, posting a big 79 since yesterday's stats run. If you remember, when the challenge was first issued, NWM was averaging in the mid-forties on a daily basis. Since that time, his production has risen to nearly 70 wu's per day, almost entirely through upgrades to his vast home-based fleet. Now, if you're not impressed by that, you're a pretty hard sell.
Captain Poopsie is making the journey to Farpoint Station as difficult for Captain Scott as possible. This morning sees the USS Poop cover 57 parsecs, extending his lead another 8 parsecs over Captain Scott's souped up science vessel. When this race began, it really looked as though the USS Guid had a good shot at reaching the abandoned outpost at sector 16,000 at nearly the same time as Poopsie's Galaxy class cruiser, but perhaps there was a considerable load of bagged sand in one of the Poop's cargo bays. Actually, the added output from Captain Skoopa's fleet is a welcome site to everyone. Well, except of course to the USS Guid's captain and crew.
The Big Dawg appears to be on an unstoppable rampage as he continues furiously digging up the wu's from his underground stash. The numbers keep increasing as the sun dawned this morning over a pile of 62 workunits stacked beside a tail-wagging BigWoofer. Although Wobbs was no slouch himself with 44, that gap between the two is getting wider by the day. And a quick look over the Oscillator's shoulder shows a Jumping Bean approaching rapidly from behind. ZeroEffect is rounding the final turn in Another Race to 8000, grinding up 24 workunits, and spying the checkered flag now only 65 wu's ahead. Only a monster dump from crt1530 and a monumental flood from Droolie can wrest a victory from Moe's grasp at this point.
The Kewl and Crabby Race to 6000 is the scene of a huge mess of cracked-up workunits as m2kewl voraciously devours 289 workunits, earning the coup-de-grace quadruple shockie award for the day. That monster purge cuts the distance between the Kewl Kracker and the Crabby Cracker, who earns a smilie for his production, to under 2000. The British Bulldogs nearly break 30 in the Race to 5000 and the Dominator smashes up 28 in the Race to 3000 as he sits just one day from the 2500 wu milestone marker. Nemur makes his family proud after slapping around 18 Berkeley Bundles in the May Mauling to 2500 but he'll have to continue that trend if he hopes to pass his competitors in time to earn the prize, and the migrooster seems to be struggling just a bit in his quest to top 2000 by June 1st.
