Technical difficulties with the stats collection process, or my ISP, or my system, or perhaps it was just sunspots, caused the stats collection to fail at 7:20 AM this morning. Therefore, these stats reflect positions as of 11:30 AM so there are a lot of smilies in today's thread. Tomorrow's stats will be low as they will be collected at 7:20 AM.
First off, let's go to the Race to Ceti Alpha 7. Even though the USS Poop is the second ship to pass the space bouy marking the quadrant boundary at sector 10,000 behind the USS IsOs, a 10,000 wu milestone deserves top-billing in any race thread. Congratulations to my old academy buddy Captain Skoopa on reaching 10,000 wu's, the 28th Anandtecher overall to do so. We'll send the babes out to Ceti Alpha 7 as soon as we can get them out of the hottub with Rowdy Ray and the rest of TWTA crew and aboard a high-speed transport heading to that section of the galaxy.
Another victory dance is being done down in the Race to 1500 where Wilder steams across the finish line to reach the halfway point to 2000. Congratulations to the Wild Man on hitting another milestone. There were times during this race that it looked as though Dark Majiq was mounting a comeback, but alas, the Majic Man fell about 50 wu's short. Kudos to Wilder and to Dark Majiq on a race well run. Don't worry, all you Majiq fans out there. We'll continue to track him as he zeroes in on the 1500 wu marker.
Things can't get much closer in the Race to 1250 as all three racers are bunched together within three wu's of each other, running in a tight group like a pack of wild, ravenous dogs. Clueless has overtaken Pyxis for second place but not without a vicious battle. Now zeroed in on the leader, Clueless will try to wrestle the primary position away from the determined and gutsy Muadib who is a racing rookie in name only. What a battle! Speaking of impressive battles, take a look at the rousing, rampant romp taking place in the Race to 750! Everyone gets a smilie as each reaches double-digits for the day, with no one in the top three emerging as the early favorite. Making a concerted effort at the back of the pack to close ranks, BigWoofer crams 16 wu's into his rigs and spits them back out cracked and broken in Berkeley's direction. This is a wild one and well worth a daily look-see.
Not taking too well to being in the Lonely Racers bracket for any extended period of time, Gul Dukat issues a challenge to cakin to a contest of skill and daring to 4000. The mis-placed Aggie is accustomed to a tough challenge and is a gritty and powerful adversary for the Cardassian as he has spent many months in the posse chasing down the [/b]defster[/b] in the hot and unforgiving desert. Hopefully that 49 wu burst from the Cardy as the starting gun fires is simply a byproduct of a solid engineering staff and not the sacrifice of a few members of his new and unwitting crew to the matter/anti-matter chamber.
The mention of the defster turns our attention to that very race, where the Sheriff has laid down the law once again. It looks like no one dared turn off a machine yesterday as 54 workunits made their way through the systems in Labville under Sheriff Zod's watchful eye. Better watch your back Mad Max, the Sheriff is comin' to your town in a hurry and he's not very happy. Also in the Race to Catch def, mgpaulus, saddled up on Sparc-ie, puts the spurs to the 16-headed monster and crunches away at 30 big wu's, while Admirals Engineer and Dantoo kick up a little dust at the rear of the pack as they approach the 50 wu mark.
Ledzepp98 has a little message for Slahr Dzhe in the Quickie to 3000 and that message is "Eat my dust, Bucko!". With a surge of 53 wu's, the Rocker from Long Island lengthens his lead over his challenger to 35. Undaunted, SD lowers his head against the onslaught of dust and debris and continues his dogged pursuit. Meanwhile, a little further back, the other half of the British Bulldog tag-team tandem Ai3x powers his way forward to within eight wu's of Baldy18 on the strength of a 17 wu day. I don't know if I'd want to get too close to the Bald One right now though. He's been saving up for a while and he could explode any day and when he does, it certainly won't be pretty for anyone who strays within the blast radius.
Another doozie of a race has developed in the Battle Royale to 1500! As the Dazzler zeroes in on the finish line, JimMc and serialb hit the afterburners in a desperate attempt to overtake the leader before he can reach pay dirt at the 1500 wu marker. With only 36 wus separating first from last, the next several days of racing should certainly keep us all on the edge of our computer chairs. Whoa, Nellie! Look at Commander Tarca go! Purging an even 100, Tarca catapaults forward landing smack dab on the 1500 wu milestone marker, leaving the Pie Guy, who was no slouch himself yesterday with 47, staring in wide-eyed disbelief. Totally unexpected by all race watchers, Tarca's titanic blast has everyone wondering where in Wu-town that came from!
