Seti Q question(s)

This got lost in another thread, so here it goes again:

Why do I have so many duplicate results? Is this a glitch with SetiQ, or SetiB(erkeley)? I've heard I should send them through again. How long to wait though?

Also, does anyone know why some SetiQ results which start with a BIG 'R' and some have a small 'r'?

Finally, what about this dropped folder? I mean, what exactly is a dropped result? Does a dropped result have something to do with the previous bandwidth issues?

I know queued results are somewhat a thing of the past, put I've got one last question. When results are queued up, sometimes you get two numbers like this 15(3). If you goto the results page, it will show a total of 18 results waiting. Why the (3)?

Just thoght of another one. Can you upgrade to the newer version of SetiQ just by running the regular install? Is there a special version for upgrading? Would hate to lose all that client info!

That's it.... I'm done.

Hey Hack,

Sorry I can't answer all your Questions, but I can give a couple of the a shot.

Firstly, the result 15(3) indicates that you have 18 total results to be sent back, but three of them are "problem" results. (i'm not sure if that means duplicate, or something else).

Also, when upgrading, I downloaded the ENTIRE download from Setiqueue.org (not just the image file) and installed that over the top of my existing installation. I did not lose any client info or historical info. To be on the safe side, I did shut down Setiqueue before running the install, and I'd recommend restarting after it, even though it didn't ask me to.

Good luck with it! :D

Hi mate ,I did notice some of your questions before but they lost!

I only know answers to some of your questions.

1,2&3 .I'll refer to SETIQ's faq for this 1

Q: SetiQueue gives out duplicate work units.
A: They are not really duplicates. They are just work units that have the same sky coordinates that were most likely downloaded right next to each other. You can verify they are different by checking the long Seti FileName on the work units. They will be different. And if you look in the workunit files themselves you will see that they vary very subtly, like by the subband frequency or perhaps recorded at a very slightly different time (like during the same second, but slight apart by a fraction of a second).

Q: Do I need to resubmitted Results that are in the Duplicates folder?
A: NO. 99.999% of the time a Result lands in this folder because it was uploaded to Seti, but the original "success" response from Seti was lost (happens frequently when they are having IO problems). So on future upload attempts Seti correctly returns a "duplicate result" response, which is what causes them to eventually get moved into the Duplicates folder. So now the next question is why do the appear to uploaded if you resubmit them later on? The answer here is because Seti only retains the list of what results you have uploaded for a finite amount of time - so after a long delay, if you resend your old results, they get counted again. (E.g., you have successfully cheated.) Only if you are sure Seti didn't give you credit would it be proper for you to attempt to re-upload these results, at which time I would publish directions how to do so if they had a major problem. So far they have not had such a problem... so don't resend them.

If you want to resend them then wait 3-4 days ,they should go through then.
It looks like dups turn up cos of the previous connection troubles ,they get submitted but the 'confirmed' signal is not recieved.

I think the big R refers to results to be resubmitted ,Orange kid will probably know for certain.

Don't know about the dropped folder:eek:

For upgrading SETIQ you can just replace the exe ,though going from v2.1 to 2.2 it is recommended you back the entire directory,as 2.2 is a major revision from earlier versions.I have replaced the exe on upgrading on all versions & have not yet had problems
The latest version is 2.2b

I hope that helps ,I know others can fill in the gaps;)

OK... take this.

I've got this in my result queue:

r:0(142)

In my client folder, there are 284 paired result files. All 142 of the .ini files are lower cased result. Of the other file, 98 are capital Result and 44 are lower case???

Just WONDERING???
