Well since RC5 is finished I thought I could change to SETI since you needed help. Before I started RC5 I had problems with cli seti version and I seem to have them now also. First I tryed SETIDriver becouse it was recommended but its kind of hard to use and the first time I used it (before RC5) it always did many WUs at the same time and when I tryed to close the additional windows it started them again. I had the max. proccesses at 1 if that matters. Then I tryed SETIWatch which was a lot of better but the SETILog didnt work :). Now I have SETIHide which seems to be very good but the problem is how do I get the DOS window to hide?

Am I the only one with problems? I had the same problems with Win98 so it cant be that and I consider myself as knowing quite a lot of computers. So those who dont know a lot of computers and arent too enthusiastic about SETI might have problems but becouse dont care too much they wont ask for help and just let it be. Someone should make a tutorial of all of these programs there are for SETI and tell how to use them becouse just like in my case not all the programs work so I needed to figure out how to use the other programs than SETIDriver which was in the FAQ.

Well first I intended just ask for help but it seems it got a bit longer :). Just my 2 cents.

Mardeth - there are a bunch of FAQs available for the different projects run by TA. :) The SETI one is here. The main thread with info on most of the projects is as a sticky at the top of this forum here.

Hope this helps you get started a bit?? :)

Mardeth,

First welcome to the Seti Project :) Your help is greatly appreciated.

For Setihide, you need to go to settings and in the SetiHide Display Mode at Startup option you can choose from the following:

[ normal ] - SetiHide window is displayed.

[ run in tray ] - SetiHide Window is not visible, but the SetiHide icon is visible in the system tray. Single left click the icon to display the SetiHide window.

[ invisible ] - SetiHide is run in "stealth mode." This mode creates a file "setihide_is_hidden.txt" inside the ..\files\ directroy. Delete this file to display the SetiHide window. Minimizing SetiHide will re-hide it and re-create "setihide_is_hidden.txt".

I hope this helps :)

Poof:I used that installion guide but had those problems. :)

Crazee: I have that on and the SETIHide goes to tray as it should but what I need is to get the "setiathome-3.03.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe" DOS window to the tray or hide.

Have you closed the window and SetiHide and then restarted yet? I believe if you do that SetiHide will then launch the client without the CLI window. If it doesn't then something strange is going on. I have used SetiHide before, but I use SetiDriver more. I know IJump has used SetiHide quite a bit so if we can't get this figured out soon I will PM him for some added assistance.

Re SETIDriver ,you got something unusual going on there because SETIDriver is usually easy to setup & use ,I have heard of your problem before though ,just last night my work mate who runs SETI for me had virtually the same problems as you!.Though in this case he had just 2 CLi windows going ,apparently in brought the system down to a crawl & a reboot didnt fix it.In the end he just deleted the entire folder & re-installed SETi CLi & SETIDriver ,that seems to of fixed it!

Afraid I know nothing about SETIHide:eek:

Crazee: Didnt help and it seems always to ask if you already have a account or not.

Assimilator1: Yes usually it was two. Sometimes more. Reinstalling from the same file that the first time didnt help.

UPDATE: I closed the DOS window but still keeps on crunching. I think Im just going to leave it this way so I wont mess up things. Thanks for the help!!!

Try downloading the file & the CLi again ,maybe they got corrupted??.
Completely delete the folder & start afresh ,unfortunatly you will loose the work you've already done.

I use a simple SETI service installer on all of my NT/2K/XP machines. The downside, it doesn't have a built-in cache of WU's in the event of Berkeley being down or a network failure. That doesn't concern me as I use SetiQ to cache WU's. If you'd like I'll send you the program I use to install. Just drop me a PM. :)

Just make sure you have workunits in setihide's cache or you will just do one wu and it will stop, i don't think the cli sends and gets wu's by itself.

Could be something got corrupted in the registry. I would try what Assimilator1 suggested. Also I usually have both Setidriver and the Setidriver binary in the same folder. By default, it assumes 1 cached WU and when you change that, it sometimes takes time for the new folders to be created and additional WUs to download - but it does this while still running that first WU. As for hiding it, when I ran it on NT at one time, I just created a service for Setidriver to start at boot and you can name the service anything you want, including a legitimate-looking system name... ;) :p. With the service option, no windows, no icons in the Taskbar, etc. A great program to do this easily is Firedaemon. I used that on my dual Xeon running 2K AS to start my Setiqueue if the machine has to reboot for some reason (eg., power fail beyond the UPS's one hour - it's been up about 163 days at the moment).

Hope this helps?
