Seti performance

I think in addition to asking new users to join AnandTech Seti team, one should emphasize that:

1. Command Line version crunches numbers WAY faster.

2. If you still want to have GUI version (as a a screensaver), goto screensaver properties and set it to turn off monitor in 0 minutes. Since it doesn't show any graphics it will run faster.

My questions to SETI veterans:

Is it worth to download older version? Berkley included additional computations in ver 3.03, that produce better (more accurate) search, but take more cpu cycles. Does it make some sense to install older versions? Will it work?

Hi, marat --

Berkeley will not accept workunits processed with clients prior to 3.03.

With the release of 3.03, the Seti@Home team accomplished two things. Number one, more science is being gathered from each workunit, thus improving the chances of finding ET. Secondly, the popularity of the project had exceeded all expectations and the vast number of workunits being distributed and returned was overloading the Berkeley servers. Slowing down the client with the additional computations helped immensely in this area.
