SETI on Xeon question

I've never run SETI on a Xeon before, so I was wondering what I should set the settings to in Seti Driver. I've set the number of procs to "2", but I'm not sure if I have to check "Set Processor Affinity" or not. Thanks in advance for the help, TeAm. 🙂
 
You don't. Will work just fine if it's not checked (and it seems to me that it runs better without it).
 
If you either (a) have a HyperThreading processor or (b) a Dual-Processor computer then set processor affinity. If you have Dual-HT Processors then it should automatically detect four processors. 🙂

Processor affinity = both processors work on their own WUs. If you do not set it, they swap calculations/tasks between them.
According to test @ 2cpu.com, leaving it unchecked gives slightly better performance.

I tested with my HT P4 and my dual Athlon MP rigs, but did not see much difference... so basically I would say it doesn't matter. I have it on for my dual Athlon, and off for my HT P4.

BTW, are those XEONs HT???
 
I had better daily production with it turned on - this was on a dual P2 rig.
Likely changing memory architecture yadayada made this advantage disappear after P2 days.
Is that a dual xeon rig? specs man, specs???
 
I can tell you a Dual Xeon 2.8GHz puts out about 22WU/day, running 4 processes. If you're running a single Xeon with 2 processes, I'd still expect in the mid teens.
 
Cool! Thanks for the tips, fellas. 🙂 It's a single Xeon 2.8 on a duallie board. I have a NY State computer that I should get access to in a few weeks. I know that one is a dual 3.0 Xeon! Can't wait to get my hands on that sucker. 🙂

I know this sounds crazy (I'm an AMD guy to the core), but how can I tell if it's HT or not?

Seti Driver usually automatically sets processes to 2 in a ht enviroment. Opening up task manager & noticing 2 processes(or more) running at near 100% usually tells you. I think checking your system in the control panel would also tell you strait up what you have.
