Does anyone know how well SETI will run on a Sparcstation 5 @ 70 mhz runnning I guess Linux? How about one at a higher speed like 85, 110, or 170 mhz? I have an oppurtunity to purchase a bunch of these and want to know if i should do it. Any comments are appreciated! Thanks.

From what little I recall, I don't think it's really going to be worth the effort. :(

But Poof has experience with these and would know for sure. :)

BMdoobieW, We use the SparcUltra 60s for network mgt. We installed S@H expecting it to kick butt! Well, we were very disappointed. It ran about as fast as a stock PIII-500 on a good day!

Don't touch them !!!!!!!!!

You would be looking at 1 week per WU probably !!

Even a Sparc 20 isn't worth it anymore since they changed the Seti client.

cheers,

Col

ok, thank you all for your comments, especially ColinP for basically telling me that it is not worth it. Oh well. I'm off to look for faster computers..... :(
