SETI - Newsflash - Current state of Berkeley Bandwidth

Seems to be an issue for some people (including myself) so I thought it might deserve its own thread.

Migroo's Newsflash
version 1

Most of us seem to have had some sort of reduced output yesterday, largely blamed on the Bandwidth problems at SETI HQ - someone mentioned it may be people leeching/flushing their queues after the 6-7 AM outage this morning and before the planned outage next Thursday (rescheduled from next Tuesday)

According to Berkeley status page - 'The data server is up and running, but dropping connections'

OrangeKid's proxy is filling up rapidly with results to be sent back to SETI HQ - currently the number stands at 1,500+. Having just checked, people seem to have quite a few units in their queues, so we are safe in that respect for the moment at least.

On an upbeat note, I am able to download WUs at a tricke from Berkeley itself. I have managed to get 11 🙂o) so far this afternoon (not properly trying, just clicking the 'Connect' button when I remembered to) and about 10% of one in the last 5 minutes while typing this report.

At least things are flowing. I shall be back with an update towards the end of this evening (GMT)

This concludes the first edition of Migroo's Newsflash.

PS: If people find this useful (or not!), please let me know. I want to know if I am just annoying anyone or wasting bandwidth here. 🙂

it seems like seti had less problems back when they were on the old bandwidth scheme.

As someone who has a cache of results I'm dying to get rid of almost as much as a virgin w a picture of Ben Franklin in a whorehouse 😀, yes...it's definitely appreciated.

LOL, I like, I like, I like 😀

OK Update coming up.

Migroo's Newsflash
Midnight GMT, Saturday morning

Hi all SETI folks.

OK a quick check of OrangeKid's proxy reveals around 1,750 WUs to be sent into Berkeley. The rate that the stockpile has been increasing seems to be slowing down, which could be due to OK being able to dump some units, or it may be down to people dumping to OK's queue in the mornings... But it doesnt look as bad as it could 🙂

I am just trying to download from Berkeley directly, and it seems to be having a little difficulty. Berkeley must be swamped at the moment.

A little to add onto this afternoon's post - I was able to download quite a few units during the entire afternoon, around 20 I believe - which is quite something for a logged Berkeley, so dont lose all hope yet!!

Forecast - Things should look brighter as things move away from the outage earlier yesterday. The 'rush' to download units is slowly being satisfied - sooner or later people will have recieved the units they want, and so things should start moving swiftly again. Similar circumstances to what we have seen in the past 2 or 3 days will probably also happen in a weeks time again, due to the next outage on the Thursday.

I'll keep you posted - more comments please! 🙂

*ahem* 😀
This ends the latest update to the Berkeley bandwi... *muffled cries, then silence...*

Hmmm I use Engineer's queue (the Federation rocks! 😉 ) so I don't have to worry about all that stuff 😛
Thanks to all you folks who host external queues, and thanks Migroo, for keeping the queue-masters up-to-date!!
