Seti: my A7N8X and 8RDA+ seem about equal in seti production times??

I have myA7N8X Deluxe running 12x175 with 6-2-2-2 timings and it's doing WU's in about 2:15
while
My 8RDA+ is set at 10x218 with timings of 5-2-2-2 and is doing WU's at about 2:12 each

I would think that with the higher FSB on the same cpu I would see a greater diff in the WU times?

Am I missing something here? Is there some key tweak I can do to up the seti crunching power on this 8RDA+??

You have to test it with the same WU otherwise there can be a lot of other factors influencing your results...

That's true, it's just that they seem to be about equal after crunching through 20 - 25 WU's each.
I guess I need to run the ARS unit on each and see what's really happening.

Why on earth would you do that, and loose 2:xx hrs of production! on each machine!

Hey wiz, soni hit it on the head, run the ars bench to get true times. Your 8RDA times look about right for a .417 but the A7N8X times look a little fast. ill go out on a limb and say the times should be more like 2:20-2:25 for a .417 but i could be wrong, eather way, thats a nice pair of machines you have there :)

I would saw to also run the ars wu on each and see what the time turns out to be. Plus you may be overstressing your 8RDA+. I have seen it wirh mine. I can get my FSB to 210 with ram at 6-3-3-2 and all benchies drop. When I run it at 207 with same timings all my benchies go back up.

I understand that Mofunk, however it is currently running 219 fsb with timings of 3-2-2-2 ;)
No problems at all.
It doesn't have a monitor attached right now, just crunching seti for the moment. Very stable.

/me jealous. What ram are you using? Are you in dual channel? I have 2x512 or PC3200 twinmos CH-5 and the best I can get is 207 with 6-3-3-2 timings in dual channel. I have read though the 512 modules do not clock as well as 256.

It's a single 256 Twinmos module. It's pretty nice.

I had a 1 hr 59min WU recently - it was over 1.0 AR but it was pretty nice to see it ;)

I've seen this where memory latency was adjusted once I went past a certain point. There was nothing I could do to keep it from happening. So, I'd look for the sweet spot (best SETI time) and let it crunch!

Go to this page (click here) and search for the word "latency2", this will take you to a link for a program Roelof wrote to test latency. I used the previous version to test the situation mentioned above.

After running a mess of WU's I am seeing about a 12% difference between the two systems.
My 8RDA+ is doing wu's about 12% faster than my A7N8X Deluxe.

I think this is significant, for a 2 hr 30 min WU on the Asus I get it in about 2 hr 12 minutes on the Epox.
I still have to run the Ars unit on each to be sure, but hey - I am in a race here you know!!!
I'll do it after the race is over!

I just had to wipe my 36 gig U160 scsi drive last night and reinstall Windows on it for my lone iNtel box.
It's happily running Seti again now, but I lost a nights production on it :(

Yeah, it's up and running again. (P3 1.26 @ 1.4ghz 512k cache 512 mb ram @ 148mhz fsb)
It just did a .005 WU in 4 hrs ;)
It was offline for 17 hours, so a little over 4 WU's lost (maybe 5) Oh well, back at it now anyway!!

Tomorrow hopefully I pull into the lead in my race ;)

just used the same WU to bench my t-bred going from 2070/138 to 2122/162 and it looks like its gonna be 6 minutes quicker. 2-2-2-4 to 2-2-2-5 i think.

I feel like my A7N8X is already pretty good and beating it by even 10% isn't bad.
If I had one of those chips Shimmishimshim runs maybe it would be even better ;)
