This is such a great idea. Thanks DanStp. I know there are several of us that have been doing both. This is like those old "should have a V8 commercials". The only bad thing is that I just joined another TA miniteam. Oh well, TWTA all the way baby.

I've already got my 4 boxes running under my own address. Can I just edit the Dnetc.ini file and replace my address with ta_seti@hotmail.com and restart the client?

ElFenix,

Remember to (after 24 hours of flushing at least one block to D.net) to go and request you password for that e-mail address and officially join TeAm Anandtech RC5....Post any questions and I'll or somebody else will be glad to assist you in this undertaking!

We love the TA Seti members for their generous offer...Watch out DPC!

so, is this where all the converts sign up? are we going to be does everyone - seti people and rc5 people - think this is the best way to go? should we all do this under one mini-team and just have the rc5 people in general make a promise to donate some power to the seti project after we find the key, or should we make deals on an individual basis with current rc5'ers to match such and such machine with their such and such machine later on. in my opinion, i don't really like the whole match this with this deal, because it should all be a team effort. now the team does rc5, and later, the team does seti.

I think this is such a cool gesture.
The logical extension would be for TARC5 to agree to form a seti 'miniteam' when the contest is over and contribute to s@h at least until equivalent processor power has been expended on the seti project.

I am certainly willing to be a part of that.
I hope somebody has suggested this somewhere already.

Train and DanSTP get 'forum contribution' awards or whatever they are from me today!

EDIT
See...tetsuo had the same idea above---^
I would think it would be easier for all the willing rc5ers to agree to match as a whole the seti teams rc5 contribution, rather than keep track of individual recompense. But either way, great plan.

My only ? about all this is won't dnet do a 128 bit version after this one is done?

will the rc5's still convert? Or will they want to go after that one too?

Isn't that what the point of cracking this code is all about?

I can assure you that IF dnet does a 128, I won't participate.
Good grief, we'd be long dust before that finished!

D.NET will not do rc5-128, rc5 is over after 64. The next project for D.Net is OGR, and that will be a perminant project, or at least until Decibel and the gang decides to try something different.

I have also switched over to RC5, under the seti mini-team banner.
I am, officially, a one cow herd instead of a one ship fleet.
Oh well, I was looking forward to running the new 3.0 cli - but -
THE TEAM COMES FIRST - DPC's lookout - the force is with US!
The herd grows!

danzig -
You can just overwrite - should be no problem. Stop the client first.

No, you don't have to reinstall the client.

You can go the the C:\RC5\ directory (if you installed from one of Russ's disks) or the
C:\Program Files\Distributed.net\ directory (if you installed from the D.net download directly from Distributed.net) and edit the dnetc.ini file and change the following:

[parameters]
id="current e-mail" <--change the "current e-mail" to ta_seti@hotmail.com to join the TA SETI-RC5 mini-team.

:D

all you have to do is change the mail login from in the .ini file to ta_seti@hotmail.com and you'll be in the mini-team.

i see this as a gesture of team spirit, to hold off the charge of the DPC's. payment in kind can be made if people feel obliged to do so. but its really about the TeAm.
