seti in ramdisk?

ledzepp98, I suspect that any gain would be very small and would be lost if the machine crashed just once. Faster memory and memory BIOS tweaks do help though (CAS2 vs. CAS3, etc.)

I think it does somewhat as it save writing to the hard disk every few minutes. However, I dont think it is worth the risk and hassle.

Actually I have 'consult' with a friend who runs seti. He said that the is actually accessed every 5-10seconds. Since it is accessed that often, it MIGHT be worthwhile to try it. See how much improvement you get.

i tried it once using some commercial ram disk software and it didn't improve times pretty much at all, plus a crash could lose a lot of work. so i uninstalled the ram disk. but the uninstaller didn't work right so i still had this 2 meg ram disk... heheh
