SETI: How many wu's do you think my potential new baby will do?

We may be doing some data warehouse hosting jobs and I need to put together a new server to handle a few clients. How does this sound?

Supermicro SC822S-400LP 2U rackmount case, 400W PS, 6 hot-swap drive bays (black, of course)
Supermicro X5DP8-G2 MB - Intel 7501 chipset, 533 MHz FSB, on board Ultra320 SCSI, dual gigabit ethernet, ATI Rage
Dual 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon processors
2 GB DDR266 CAS2.5 Registered ECC memory (the motherboard supports up to 16GB)
2 Seagate Cheetah 10K 36.7GB 80pin U320-SCSI hard drives
CD and Floppy, of course

Price a system configuration like this with no O/S at:

Dell - $5200+
Micron - $4900+
Gateway - $5400+
HP/Compaq - $5800+

All parts from GoogleGear. (Are you ready for this?)

$2585.98 :Q:Q:Q

I may go elsewhere for the memory. 1GB DDR266 RAM sticks are $279 at GoogleGear. I can find qualified RAM for this motherboard elsewhere for $218 per stick...

So, how many wu's per day with this baby? 🙂😀

Depending on the amount of use you will get at least 20 wus a day, more if it isn't used much with work functions

Make sure you take some pics once it's built!!

EDIT: How about you build a rig like that with dual Opterons so we can see some WU times on them😀

Using hyperthreading you should get more than 20 per day. I think Barbary got 19-20 out of a Dualie P4 setup and the procs if I recall correctly weren't 2.4s 🙂

Will the 2.4ghz Zeons do hyperthreading, or are do they start at 3.0ghz like the normal P4?

Curious since I still would like to build a P4 or Xeon system for video editing.
In the interim, I ordered an XP2100 Thoroughbred (can't support Barton 🙁 ) to upgrade my existing video platform. It will at least double my rendering and encoding speeds.

just might make SETI run faster too !!! 🙂 change from 1ghz to 1.73ghz

FYI, Hyperthreading now starts at 2.4GHz if you have the 800MHz FSB Pentium 4.

And the new rig sounds sweet, OhioDude!

All Xeons are HT enabled.

the 3.06Ghz 533MHz bus P4 has HT, as well as the 2.4C, 2.6C, 2.8C and 3.0C, with the 800MHz bus

Great setup OD ! 🙂

You're gaining the power I'm losing at work. 😉

Crunch baby, crunch ! 🙂 😀

At stock speeds? I only got about 7 a day out of my 1600+@ 1743mhz :Q Even overclocked, with two processors that would only be 14.

Yup. That's what I just bought. A 2.4c P4, 800 MHz bus.

I'm looking for info about HT, because it appears that the SETI driver shows 2 processes running at once.

I hardly even know what I bought, but it seems pretty sweet!
