ive been away from the forums way to long. im falling behind on every thing. i think this is the first post ive made in half a year.

any way i just got a cheap computer im using it for watching movies and working on my web site. i will not have the money to get it on the internet untill summer. i remember there being a way to do a bunch of units at a time for a computer that is not on the internet 24/7. is there any way i can get it to work with out the internet... or only send results onse a week or so?

Answer: Sneakernet

Lot's of ways to do it if your non-internet computer has a CD burner.

Load up a SetiDriver installation on one of your internet capable computers. Download a ton of WUs and then CUT/BURN the whole Seti folder to a CD-R(W) and then COPY/paste it on your non-internet hard drive. Crunch the WUs and then reverse the process.

There are a few other details you'll have to be concerned with but the primary thing is having a way to move the WUs to an internet capable machine.

You could do that, just use something like SETIDriver, but set it to cache maybe... 200 WU's at a time :)

How about doing what my son did. Connecting an uplink cable from one computer to the other. that way you can internet connection share and still process work.

The camera would work fine.

I use a USB thumb drive all the time, for Seti (using SETI Driver) and F@H.

It is kind of satisfying to see all those results sent off at once and see a big jump in the stats :D

One time I lost everything on the thumb and had to reformat it. After that I started copying the folder, just be careful to keep close track of which is which folder. I had to delete a folder with a bunch of finished WUs because some had already been sent in and I didn't want to get double credit and get caught cheating

Edit: I think read that very wrong. You're not at work; you're just at home without a broadband connection, aren't you. In that case, set up that modem and follow the "alien" link in my sig to learn how to install Seti Driver.

If the above is true, ignore the following:
I would recommend the camera instead of the modem. Your system administrator probably wouldn't appreciate you adding a way around the firewall that anyone or anything can access. Using the camera will keep viruses and hackers out.

at home with broadband. i was going to take my main computer off of the cable modem and put the other one on, get units and switch back.
i just ended up using the camera.

the 500mhz celeron is already working on its first unit.

Flash drive (or memory card?) is the easiest :)
You could use SETIQ with this

thank for the help every one. im using setidriver. the 500mhz celeron can do about 1.75 wu per day. my main computer does about one every 4.5 hours but its only on for about 6 hours a day, so this one on 24/7 should still help me a lot. ive also got my cousins computer running it, i get about 1 a day from them depending how much there on.

Well I guess you could copy the entire BOINC directory on & off the flash drive & flush it on a connected machine ,can't say for certain though as I haven't tried it.

Maybe you could add 'classic & BOINC' in your thread summary to find out?

It's possible to sneakernet CPDN if you moves the whole BOINC-directory, but more doubtful for other projects, among other things due to the 1 or 2-week deadline.
