Thanks, Rattledagger, for the info. Looks like a big job - joining the databases, cleaning up etc.
Does the plan - to shut down seti-classic in November still hold? :Q
Well, if Berkeley isn't going to just dump the backlog of unvalidated "classic"-results, there will in any case be some cleanup to do after "classic" has shut down, so shouldn't influence when "classic" is shut-down. It's rather, the longer "classic" keeps running, the longer the clean-up will take, and the longer before servers can be re-configured to other jobs.
Hmm, a quick look on the TeAm Enterprise setiqueue reveals "classic" is to-day only handing out wu from tapes already distributed by SETI@Home/BOINC over a month ago.
This means, the wu "classic" is currently handing-out has already been validated by SETI@Home/BOINC, so nothing would really be lost if Berkeley just dumps all "classic"-results as they're returned...
It's possible the SETI@Home/BOINC-servers can't handle the load of all "classic"-users, but since the only hardware not currently being used is tied-up by "classic" and needs to be cleaned-out after shutdown, there will be no improvement by waiting some more time before shutting down... Well, except if someone in the mean-time donate some new servers...
So, AFAIK the only they're waiting on is the release of v5.2.x...
