Seti@Home stats question...

I just wondered if anyone know when we might expect the "View Last 10 Workunits" link to work again... I really liked that, and when that went and the RC5 team seemed needier (TA vs DPC:|) I went fulltime to RC5... At least for me that thing was a nice thing since I never seemed to have the same times in my setiQ or anything... so for an "accurate" time measurement of how long I spent on my WUs I usually went there... Just curious while waiting for RC5 to finish, and preparing to switch 😉

TwoFace: This is just my speculation, but I have doubts about that feature being available. They recently fixed the cgi issue and put it back on line, but they got hammered so bad with so many S@H'er that they had to restricted it. Two days ago they upgraded a server by adding additional CPUs. Here is what they say about the upgrade:

<<We had a planned outage this morning to take two CPUs out of the science database server and place them in the user database server (which has been struggling as of late). This procedure took a bit longer than expected, since we had to transfer voltage regulators along with the CPUs - a detail that wasn't made clear until halfway through the outage.

Anyway, the patients have survived the operation, and in the next day or so (when data server traffic stablizes) we'll see if this CPU donation helped break through some bottlenecks.

I've seen some speculation that this was done to allow the "View Last 10 Workunits" feature to be re-activated. Well, as of this morning it still says:

<<The workunit display is currently inactive due to excessive database load. Thank you for your patience>>

I have noted that the TeAm page come up faster! I think this project has gotten bigger than they ever imagined! With CPU power increasing so much in the past two years, they can hardly keep up with us! So, I think the extra CPU(s?)is to reduce the time-out we get while trying to upload WU's.

My 2 cents! 🙂😀

I noticed that over at TLC they had several threads where they were talking about taking up donations to help the seti people upgrade their servers.

blade - Give us a link. I would contribute to a fund for that. Maybe we should start our own! Wonder what kind of hardware they are running? A cpu can't be that much.

Thanks for the info JWMiddleton, so no real chance of getting that feature back I guess 🙁 that's too bad, since that was one of the features I really like with SETI stats 😱

If not those threads in TLC forums come through... I'm too tired to read'em now, it's 4:20am here... Thanks for the links tho' blade_47 I'll check'em out tomorrow 😉
