SETI@Home slow on new P4

I was running SETI@Home (screensaver version) on my AMD 1800xp and was getting work units completed in around 4 hours. Now that I've got a P4 2.53 it has taken 10 hours to get through 50%. Everything else on the computer seems to be a lot faster, but this SETI slowdown is bothering me. Any suggestions/explanations?

Are you running the screensaver version on the P4? If so (and if you don't want to switch to the faster Cli version)
Make sure you have it set to go to blank screen in 0 (zero) minutes. Make sure you don't have any other screensaver active, and make sure you check the thing that makes it run all the time, not just when screensaver is active.

You would definitely want to get rid of the screensaver version , Cause it's a slow dog ;)

Use the CLI , with SetiDriver to control it and SetiSpy to get all the nice informations.

( you just beat me to it Wiz ) ;)

GUI = :(
CLI = :)

;)

Oh and for the useful information check the power saving options and make sure the hard drives aren't set to power down after inactivity.

Thanks for all of the quick responses.

I know the CLI is better, but the point is that I've been running the screensaver version (always, not only when active) on the old computer and now it takes a lot longer. I didn't change versions, this is just much slower now on the new computer.

I'll download the CLI and see if the same thing happens, but the problem still exists either way.

With the command line client (CLI) you'd be able to get times below 3ours easely...
Ofcourse the Screensaver looks very good and is nice to look at, but you can make the crunchin like 10 times faster! :)

Is this a new motherboard? Something is definitely not right.

When I first got started I didn't have my bios settings correct. So check things like that.

Are you sure the new P4 is running at its nominal speed? The FSB could have defaulted to a slower setting.

Check your powersaver setting and make sure the only thing set to turn off is the monitor and it isn't going into a sleep mode to save power( check in both windows and the MB bios )

Also, very important, go to the Screen Saver tab of the Display Properties, then click the settings button near the bottom. Under the Power Schemes there, there's a setting for Turn off hard disks; make sure it's set to Never, or it will really hurt your SETI times.

Nah it won't ,SETIs activities keeps the HDD active:p ,thats how I have mine set & only the 2nd HDD spins down (SETI runs from the 1st HDD) :)

But anyway ,even using the GUI it should be much faster ,I'd bet the graphics are showing

one thought....have you checked to make sure the bios is being cached in the bios settings?
I flashed my bios recently and had a similar problem.
