is there any way to choose "automatic login" so it skips the whole process of picking your username and password? i'm not all the familiar with aol, but with aol im you can check a box so that it automatically logs on for you. other than that, i don't know.

Are you saying you can't get it to connect at all? If you're logged into AOL can you connect? If so, you should try SetiQ. You could download and store WU's so it doesn't have to connect all the time. Also, is the PC on a network?

Try to convince th owner that AOHELL is sh|t and not "The real Internet". Don't use AOL anyway. ;)More information can be found here.

what is setiQ, I have never heard of that. The computer is my dads, he doesn't know how to operate one and the only thing he does on it is check his stock portfolio on it. He won't even let me network it to mine so it can share my cable modem, he insists on tying up the phone line and being really slow about it. i have set up rc5 but when i installed set it went through the normal process and then when it tries to connect to get a WU it can't contact the set server. So if this setiQ will workt hen i'll give that a try, is there a link you can give me to get it.

SETI GUI 2.04 works absolutely fine through AOL...I did it for a year. :) If it won't work for you, something must be set up wrong.

I have a couple PCs on AOL using SETI. All you have to do is be logged on to AOL and SETI will download a new workunit. If you aren't logged on the download will fail.

SetiQ sounds like a good option then. You could set it to download enough units for 5 days then move them to another directory. Do that a few times and queue up a couple of weeks worth of WU's. After you're done download WU's move them back into your main SetiQ directory. Then you can use either the CL client or GUI client to use SetiQ as it's server instead of the client having to download a unit after it completes one. That way you wouldn't have to be connected all the time and could just do some dumps when you want.

I can't believe he will not let you network it to share your cable connection. Does he realize how much faster it would be? Why not assist him into making the move. Do something with his modem so it connects slower than it should. Set the ports speed low or put in an init string to force a 9600 connection!!! :Q

personally I don't mind too much that he doesn't want to share my cable connection, i guess thats just more bandwith for me. But sukhoi and assimilator1 when i try it i am logged onto aol and it it says it is connecting to the server and then it comes up with an error saying that it couldn't connect and to try again. Well i've tried and tried but it's not getting any better, i've even reinstalled it and have not even messed with any of the settings, so i don't see how you got it to work for a year. Is it possible that aol was configured in a strange way and that is why seti is having trouble on that computer.

It's possible, no, make that probable :), that AOL is screwed up on that computer.

What version of AOL is it running?

All I did when I had AOL and no SETIQ, was set the GUI to only connect when I told it to. Then I'd sign on to AOL, minimize it, open up the GUI, and click connect. It always worked fine for me.
