Seti@Home. GUI or CLI

Hi,
What "version" of SETI do you run.

GUI, cos it looks good, makes a good replacement screensaver, and your not bothered about how long it takes per workload.

CLI, cos its faster, more efficient, and you want to contribute to SETI/TeamAT as much as possible.

I was gonna make it a poll, but i forgot to click the button thing. lol

BTY, i was using the CLI.
Confused spent ages explaining how to get it working(thanks), but i decided against it, cos i was`nt interested in stats and positions, so i switched back to the GUI.
I`ll probably set the CLI running when i leave my pc on for ages, but for general use, i`ll stick to the GUI.

BTY, when i was running the CLI, i DLed 30 WUs in the background, what`ll happen to them?
Will the seti servers send them to someone else if they are not processed by a certain date? Or will they have to be processed on my rig, to prevent them from being wasted and never being processed?

CLI 3.03 definitley!!!

I did about 100 with a previous name using GUI but forgot password so started over🙁

I run the CLI on 6 computers. I have convinced some people to run the GUI screensaver to up production and contribute to the effort.

WinXP CLI, PowerPC Linux CLI, MacOS X CLI, Mac OS 9 GUI, and next week, once the rig is assembled and the DSL is hooked up, 2x WinXP CLI on hyperthreaded Pentum 4.

😀 😎

You mean there's a choice?!? :Q :Q Gosh, I thought the CLI was all there was! 😕

j/k 😀

Seriously, I ran the GUI version for my first 360 or so WUs before I joined TA and was then instructed in the fine art of SETI production. 😉

Ive just realised that this post was useless, everyone is using the CLI !!!

What`ll happen to previously caches WUs? Cos the GUI will only do one at a time, and doesnt recognise the extra DLed WUs. Will Seti re-allocate them to someone else if they arnt processed by a certain time?

CLI. If I want to look at something pretty on my desktop, I'll play UT2K3. 🙂
But if you left UT2003 on all the time, then there would be no space cpu time for seti? lol

What if the CLI is running & the screensaver tries to start? Then your really not getting anything done.
Why stick to the GUI for "general use"? Do you generally sit & watch your screensaver?

I find more useful info from add-ons like SETI Spy than anything i ever saw with the GUI.
All that being said;

If you really want to continue to use the GUI, try SETI Monitor. It will cache WU's & display stats & info and it works with both the GUI & CLI. Easy to setup & use too.

Last i looked it's available here:
SETI@home Links & Add-ons Page for Windows

Sometimes i set RealOne player running and listen to some music while im doing some work, so with the screensaver/GUI, i can see whats being processed. Just curious i guess.
I DLed the SetiMonitor thing, seems like a good piece of software, but i dont really need caching.
When im on the pc, Seti hardly gets 5 minutes to itself, so doing just one WU will take ages, so caching is not needed, and if it trys to connect to the seti server, but fails, i wont loose sleep over it or panic, i`ll just wait till its working again.

Just wait when you get into your 1st race 😉 (whether it be official or otherwise)

Ahh but the graphics are very pretty & they are kinda mesmurising😉

In days of old with v2.0x & earlier the GUI version was only very slightly slower than the CLi (about 5% I think) ,back then I stuck with the GUI 1 ,SETIQ works fine with it btw🙂

BoomAM, did you stir it up good

CLI , of coarse 😛
