Seti@Home and HD power off

SETI does write to the disk so, YES, power down of the harddrive will affect the process.

If you want to save power by shutting down the drive consider getting a RamDisk utility; maybe setup a SetiQ on one machine with the hard drive running all the time, and use the RamDisk program on all the clients connecting to it. 😉

Have 512 meg of Ram hummmmmmmm
However I only have one computer so SetiQ won't do 😉

Where would I find Ram Drive for Win2k?

Great but $35? Probably find a cheaper one or Just beg my GF for $35 😀

Once its up and running how do I trick SetiDriver to use it?

IMHO, just keep the drive running. One of the hardest things for a HDD to do is spin up and spin down, so if you can minimize this it is best. It might actually be better for the drive to stay running, and most drives take miniscule amounts of power when running idle.

hmm it is not always power you are worried about though. One of my computers thats in my room makes a really high pitch sqweek from it's HDD and it is really anoying at night. Have never found a solution though as it only has 32mb of ram 🙁

Well, the best way to save power while keeping SETI running at full blast would be to have your monitor shut off after a period of inactivity, but leave everything else set to "Never".

Also, turning out that light when you leave the room won't hurt either. 😉

Ouch thud clunk eeeeeeeeeeeepkkkkkkk Meeeeeeeeeeowwwwwwwwwwwww spfssssssst ouch ouch ouch get off my feet........... rats should of left the light on and triped over my cat 😛
