I just setup a laptop for a customer with a Centrino Pentium M 1.5GHz cpu and 512MB PC2700. Of course, I had to do some crunching on it and it blew my mind. It did like 24 wu's with an avg time of 2:05. The slowest wu was 2:23 and the fastest 1:45. I can't believe Intel doesn't bring this technology to the desktop. Clock for clock, this CPU absolutely dusts ANY CPU ON THE MARKET....including anything AMD has to offer.

I want one for my desktop system and I want to OC it!!!! hehehehehe :D

Intel ARE bringing this technology to the desktop. Their next line of desktop CPUs will be based on the Banais core, as they have recently scrapped the Tejas core due to too high power use/thermal output.

Intel just released the Dothan CPU for the desktop environment :D
Here is an article about it.. It's a centrino system.

The nice thing is, under full load and with passive cooling it only got up to 45C :)

Yea, now that's what I'm talking about! Passive cpu cooler!! :D

Intel really needs to rethink this whole P4 GHz race. GHz looks good on paper, but, as shown with the "E" class CPU's, they are just too freaking hot. I could care less about GHz, I want the most efficient processor in terms of work and the Pentium M is it! Can you image this cpu at 2.5MHz? SETI wu's in an hour or less? Now that's some CPU power. With that, you wouldn't even need HT or dual core.

duh:roll:

Seriously though the rumor is that when Intel goes to dual core desktop CPUs they will use the Dothan PM core.

I'm actually surprised your times were so low. My PM 1.5 uses pc2100 instead of the pc2700 yours has and it does the same average. I guess the extra memory kick doesn't really help the Banias core, which is surprising consitering how much SETI likes memory bandiwdth.

I love my 1.7GHz Centrino. I am using it for my primary trading station so it is heavily used M-F during market hours and I also do a lot of optimizing over the weekends. With all of this use look at the Seti Stats:

******* SETI Cache Spy v2.44 WU Log Calculations *******
Cache Name:
Log File: \\Smoke02\C\Seti@Home-Robor\SETILog.csv

Log Contents: 52 WU's counted; 0 WU's dropped

AR..................... #........ Min....... Max....... Avg
High (>0.8)....... 9..... 01:31.... 01:58.... 01:36
Med (0.4-0.8).. 41.... 01:58.... 02:13.... 02:03
Low (<0.4) ........2..... 02:13.... 02:14.... 02:13

Normally I would never build a PC for my use with an Intel, but if I could build one using this chip, I probably would. That sounds great!

Heck yah. Centrinos rock. I have 2 Centrino equiped laptops and they carry me ever since i lost my work fleet. Quick question for you Smoke what program are you using for those stats. I have almost 18,000 wu's completed and I still feel like a noob.

Yea, bro! My Centrino is similar to yours. It's a Dell (work purchased) with a 1.6ghz
Centrino, with a gig of ram, ATI 9600 1287mb vid...

My times are similar to yours, but mine is off during commute time. :D

Really neat program.

Actually I think it would take 2 or 3 months to do a SETI wu at that speed ;), now crank it up 1000x to 2.5Ghz and it would scream :p

Awesome, just think if you could OC it to about 2.5GHz!
