SETI hangs when starting new wu

Has anyone ran in to this? Every time my HD7770 finishes a WU and starts a new one, the new wu hangs.

This morning I had one that had been going for 6 hours and was still at 0%. Suspended that wu and tried to start a different one and that one stayed at 0% too.

If I suspend SETI entirely, and then restart it, it seems to be okay.

There are three kinds of Seti WUs:
SETI@home Enhanced
SETI@home v7
AstroPulse v6

Is it only one type that hangs or do all three types act the same way?

From the department of kludgey workarounds:

You could create a batch file with:
Code:
boinccmd.exe --set_gpu_mode never
boinccmd.exe --set_gpu_mode auto

And set up a scheduled task to run it every hour or every two hours. Not perfect, but it should suspend and then immediately resume all GPU tasks. Which sounds like it would get your tasks running within an hour or two of them starting.

Have you looked at the tasks for that computer? (SETI website >my account > computers >tasks).

See if any of those WUs errored & then see if other people had problems with it too (by clicking on WU details).

Weird problem!

I discovered it last night. Six hours at 0% was a bit suspicious.

I had my 560 TI in this computer and the 7770 in my main computer. I swapped them this week. After the swap the 7770 started doing this. When I swapped I cancelled all seti tasks and downloaded new ones.

The 560ti is working fine.

This is the computer that's giving me fits:

I wonder if it could be a driver thing after the swap?

The 7770 doesn't do as good at Seti as the 560. Have you considered running a project on the 7770 that does well on ATI? Milkyway, Collatz, MOO! wrapper, DistrRTgen, etc. I bet you could push them to 100K or 1M in a short time and get listed in the next "Most BOINC Milestones" stats thread :)

No, but I will look in to it. Edit: Giving milkyway a try.

I'm wondering if maybe it's dying. It won't run AERO now, says there is a problem with the driver, but catalyst says the driver is up to date.

Is this unusual for milkyway?

No that's normal, lol, often those are validated when a 3rd user crunches them. Sometimes it turns out to be a bad WU though.

I can't crunch MilkyWay@Home v1.02 (opencl_amd_ati) WUs atm on my main rig, theirs some bug with them & Radeon 5800s & 6900s :(. Your 7770 seems to be ok with 'em

Thanks Mark, for the hint that there is a bug for those MilkyWay@Home-WUs for 58XX-GPUs. I have tried it and bounced and was just going to look it up ... saved me some time. I switched to PrimeGrid on that computer ...

You can keep crunching with the 5800, what you need to do is go to your MW preferences & untick 'milkyway@home' app, it'll carry on crunching MW separation mod fit WUs. That's what I've done, it's my only permanent MW cruncher :).

No probs btw :)

Hmmm. I have one about to finish, will have to see if that one is successful. Looks like it's hit and miss? This one is inconclusive. The one before it looks to be validated.
