Seti gripe

So i finally get the quirks worked out on my i7 920 rig, oc it to 3.7 24/7 stable with HT, get the gtx 260 crunching 24/7 and...I ran out of wu's 3 days ago b/c the ***** project is offline right now. Oh well, at least my other rigs are set for 10 days and are doing fine right now...

SETI is always having problems it seems like to me or they just don't have work. I mainly crunch SIMAP, and Milkyway now..

well, they are scheduled for 3 days off per week already, so as long as you set the queue for more it's typically ok. I was just venting b/c I didn't get enough wu's before the cutoff.

Bryan, i sent you a pm with the following info.. and i posted here so that others might benefit.

hmmm..
All your cpus are decent... so to get the most ppd from them, i would go with aqua for the cpus.. you should be able to get 100kppd with ease.

As for your gtx260 and 9600GSO, you can do gpu grid, DNETC, milkyway, collatz.. my preference for the nvidia gpus is to set up gpu grid as the primary, and DNETC as the backup.

there's nothing that you can do with the 7300gt, and 6600gt that i know of... you might want to switch these out with some low end dx10/dx11 cards

you should be running the latest boinc client to be able to use the benefit of backups.
another thing you can do is setup seti as your primary cruncher in boinc and then setup another project as backup... that way when you run out of work for seti, it will start crunching your backup program until more seti work shows back up.

Don't worry to much Bryan, were all in the same boat.
I have a 10 day cache and only get enough gpu work
for 1 day. :'(

ok, I set up aqua@home and milkyway @ home to run 1% of the time on my 2 crunchers with gpus. the rest didn't run out of work.

should I set that at 0 % and just tell seti to crunch other work if there is no seti available?

on the gpu front I'm kind of stuck. I've got a good deal going with my family, I have the best computer for my gaming/crunching, 2nd best (x3350) is my little girls "dora and diego games" computer, 3rd best is my main office computer, and last is mom's. Her temps in her computer room are fine, but I know from experience that a gpu can heat things up in a hurry. Plus, she's on a fixed budget and I feel bad enough using her $$ like this for DC. If I end up passing down one of the others with a nice gpu to her then that's ok, but I don't want to go out of my way to kill her room thermals and electricity bill. I have the x3350 in my office along with the i7. The room is already 3-4c warmer than the rest of the house, much warmer and I might need to get an ac window unit 🙂

How do you deal with all the heat from your rigs? Are you up north? I'll bet peter is jealous of all that heat you're wasting!

in boincstats, set your back up to 0%, so that it doesn't crunch unless your main is out of work.. otherwise it's going to crunch while your main is crunching.

I live near DC in maryland. I keep my AC on year round and I keep my windows open during the winter. During the summer, I vary when the windows are open depending on the heat inside and outside. If the temp is outside is 95+F.. then i have to shut down a few computers to keep the temps manageable. I really don't know what my temps are inside... i'm afraid i might shock myself if i knew D:
