SETI Enhanced credit "debate"

Anyone else watching the fireworks here.

I am just LMAO at some of the people in that thread.

Calls of cheaters, people putting the farms up for sale, others pointing out the door, the sky is falling, the four horsemen are saddling up. 😛

Someone get me a beer and some popcorn. The crying in that thread is just so darn fun to watch. Ah, good times, good times.

Dunno what their on about😕 ,though I haven't read the whole thread ,not enough time😛

I've never really got to grips with the new scoring system anyway😛

Before coming in to work this morning, I actually read the entire thread, though I had to skip breakfast to do it. 🙁 I tend to agree with "Daniel", "Sarge" and a few others with the larger fleets that are saying to pack up and choose a different project. It's the only way the folks at the top will understand their perceived grievances. 🙂

The way I understood it, it sounds like hardly anyone's happy.

1. Teams/Users at the top were unhappy that they were no longer getting their big RAC numbers. Not sure if this was SETI specific or BOINC in general?

2. Teams/Users trying to catch the Teams/Users at the top were unhappy because the lower RAC (for all) would make it next to impossible to ever catch up.

It seems the Admins are damned if they do and damned if they don't! 😕

Making cross project work equitable is almost an impossible task. Tweaking the benchmarks may regulate the earned credit fairly in one project but then things seem to get a little out of whack in another. The old "warped board" syndrome.

That's how it seems to me but I'm probably wrong (as usual). 😛

I just want to find the cure for cancer and other bad stuff. 🙂

I wonder why they didn't level the playing field then, start over with new stats, that would at least seem to head off the steam?

Well come to think of it, if that's the case, I'm not sure what the problem is. I've been testing the new enhanced version on my home systems since Thursday and the RAC had really gone up. I used Crunch3r previous optimized version and now used his optimized enhanced version and yeah, it's looking pretty sweet so far.. Am I missing something here?

No, Johan, you are not. My RAC is up too! Even with the enhanced version. 🙂
It may be that we look more to getting the WUs crunched! 😉

I've read the thread, and it did not impress me ...

If you're using the optimized versions you will see better RACs. Of course then there's the folks that say optimized clients is equivalent to cheating. We had this discussion over in the Einstein@Home project a while back - most came to the conclusion that so long as an optimized client doesn't impair the science being done it should be welcomed. And indeed, "akosf" went ahead an proceeded to design a new client, and then subsequent many more revisions to the point where for Windows users, the client was nearly 4 times as efficient as the original. It was even suggested that the E@H admins should hire him to help design new clients for them officially, and indeed he just recently was. 🙂

I really get a kick out of people that are stomping their feet threating to go to Einstein or other projects unless they get to overclaim credits again. 😕 Personally I can't wait until the 5.4.x clients are made mandatory.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that I'm using akosf clients on all three of my boxes and am enjoying the credit ride while it lasts. But what these people need to realise is that the ride is going to come to an screeching halt when offical optimized albert apps go mainstream.

Anyway, looking at my RAC, from the time I added that Dell a few weeks ago, my RAC has continued to climb on all projects. These people really need to get a grip on reality here.

Don't like the way the project is running? Fine, the door is down the hall and to the left. Now STFU and leave already. :disgust:

Whinney biotches. 😀
