Seti Crunching: Athlon MP versus Athlon XP?

I'm just curious. After seeing some of the fantastic SETI times recorded by Athlon XP users (sub 3 hrs. in some cases), I'm wondering how Athlon MP's would stack up against equivalent megahertz Athlon XP's. Athlon MP's are AMD's answer to Intel's Xeons, which are supposed to have ungodly crunching abilities, right?

So, how would an MP 1800 stack up against an XP 1800?

Also, XP 1500 (1.33 GHz) crunch faster than a regular Athlon 1.4 GHz, right?

Note: I have no intention of purchasing either one anytime soon, seeing as I have no money, but I'm just curious, and one can always dream. :D

An AthlonXP 1.33 GHz should have much better performance (on a DDR system) than an Athlon 1.4 GHz I would think.

Sukhoi: He was asking about Athlon MP versus XP though, not T-Birds :)

As MustPost said, there should be no difference whatsoever between an equivalently clocked MP and XP.

Actually, I did ask about XP 1.33 versus T-Bird 1.4. I may upgrade my 1.4 sometime when XP's are a lot cheaper.

As for the MP versus XP, I guess there isn't really any reason to get the MP unless you want to do a dual setup, since they are more expensive.

Thanks for the link, CyberDuck. (Why are you still a Jr. Member?)

According to that article, AMD's main distinction between the MP and XP is that the MP can be setup in a dual processor configuration. But, the XP supports SMP anyway, so I really don't see the point of getting an MP over XP since the MP is more expensive for the same processing power.

MP's are internally identical to an XP, though the bridges haven't been bulldozed. They are essentially XP's that have undergone some stringent compatibility testing to ensure they will run stable in a SMP setup. But clock for clock, should be the same.
