SETI Crunchers for Sale

I recently bought a really nice and expensive notebook computer. It makes a lot more sense with my traveling. My work notebook is a Dell PII-366 and I have given up on them upgrading it.

So, I am going to be offering some boxes for sale to pay off my credit card bill. The first one, is a new acquisition:

Tyan Tiger MP 2460 ver. 1.03 (linky to FAQ)
Two AthlonXP 1800+ CPUs with/HUGE HSF (not MP chips, nor are they modded)
512 MB of Crucial PC2100 Registered DDR memory CAS 2.5
1.2 GB HD with WinXP Pro ( just for running SETI)
10/100 Enet PCI adapter (Dlink I think)

I am running the system without a case. It is simply sitting on a CPU box with a PS and drive connected. All I've done with the system is crunch SETI@Home. I did surf the web and it worked fine. I will verify this tonight, but I believe I get two WUs every 3.45 hours. So, that would be 10 to 12 WUs per day with 14 some days.

You will need to add a video card and PS. I tried it with a 250 watt el-cheapo PS and it had probs. I changed to a 350 Antec and I had no more issues.

Shipped & insured via priority mail for $285.00 to US only. PayPal accepted.
 
Do you also ship to foreign countries??
If so, I might be interested.. Ofcourse the shipping costs would be much more..
Is it possible to change the cpu's to faster cpu's from the XP series?
 
it should accept any of the XP/MP processors up to the t-bred b's as it will support a 266 fsb.

that's a nice price too, if I had the cash I'd take them myself 😉
(but alas like many here I'm strapped to pay my cc bills too)

Tim, I changed the post to reflect US shipping only will be paid. I have no idea how much trouble it is to ship to the Netherlands. I know they would charge you customs and other costs which might not make it a good deal.

You would need to check the web site at Tyan to see if faster CPUs are supported. Problem is new XP chips don't work in MP boards without making mods to the chips.

By the way, I'm not Tim (Cobra is 😉)
When I checked some shops in the Netherlands, a new Tyan MP board is almost $230, and XP1800's for $110 (don't know exactly how much the euro is today..)
And when I need to pay cusoms (probably a lot!) then I could by almost a brand new one for the same price and safe you more trouble sending the package 😉
When you ask such a nice price, you'll probably sell it very soon! 🙂

Actually, I wouldn't run that board above a couple of XP/MP 1900's....as it's known to fry the ATX connector at the 5 volt lines. You can mod the board with a molex connector and get better current draw across the 5 volt lines (at 2CPU forums). Good Luck JW...nice board...but wife won't let me right now! 🙁
 
I got email from a guy named Larry who says he is very interested, but I don't know him. He said he was referred from
the SETI BBR Site. I would prefer to sell this thing to a TeAm mate as selling it to a BBR member would be a double hit.
 
I am not saying don't do the deal with the email guy but be very careful. i.e. request payment before shipping etc. There are a lot of "lurkers" who will screw you. I got burnt by one last year!!!

by the way nice combo. Wish I still had mine 🙁 But I sold it for some silly reason.

Hey, JW, it's YOUR cruncher. If you want to sell it to a team member first, then DO so. Don't let anyone guilt you into changing your requirements. Either way, it helps SETI, and why NOT sell to a Team Anandtech member first.

If it was me, I'd sell it to a Team Anandtech member, even if it wasn't for SETI, before selling to anyone outside of the TeAm.

There is nothing wrong with TeAm loyalty. If someone made a comment like that to me, no way I'd sell to them.

 
Hey Ray! If peeps were beating down my door it would be one thing, but they aren't. Spacehead seems serious about it, so that's good. Larry may be pi$$ed cause I put that up after he emailed me. I don't have a problem with him. No biggie! 🙂
 
I was really interested, however the wife is pretty insistent on getting a Dell bundle system (Kids Christmas). She doesn't want to give them something I have to set up. Sorry, I would love to have it for my desk, but I guess the kids come first.
 
Spacehead bought a MO today and will drop it in the mail tomorrow. So, it looks like it is gone! 🙂

from Shuxclams and it works great! My son uses it and
YES, it crunches 2 WU's at a time, 24/7.
