Hmmm, if anyone is interested in looking at my server farm

Here are some pics. I've been doing some OC'en... Tho, I haven't gotten any response time yet I'll be posting some more screen shots of seti Q.

Eric, But they are all nude! :Q Hehe, I've got a few of those as well, but I sit a small HD on the PS so that I can run Win98 or XP.

I also like the Recumbent bike! It says it was only $369, is that still correct? How much was shipping? Do you ride it much?

*eeek! naked PCs!:Q*.......................... 😉

I have 1 naked PC , a Celeron 366@566MHz with an Asus P2B mbrd🙂,does Wus in about 10.5hrs

Way 😎!!

I like the diskless setup. What are you running for each node? Win98Lite? How's the network setup?

Details, man, I like details! 😉😉

Details are in the pics! 🙂 Anyway... I'm using Linux CLI v. 3.3 running from the Linux Router Project (linuxrouterproject.org)... Network is setup all machines are plugged into 10/100 NetGear Hub...from a Long cat 5 cable that goes under the house and plugs into router (linksys). That issues out DHCP IP's that is forwarded to the seti Q server... 🙂 I also use free ping to ping all of the IP's and if one should go down it wall call my cell phone (JUST KIDDING!!!) ... It will send me an email... hahaha Only if the servers at work go down will I get a call on the cell... I was really determined to make this (ECS) cheap frys board work off the LAN. The cheapest way to do it was with $5.00 Floppy drives since I didn't want to spend another month trying to figure out how to write a custom bios for the lan. Besides it doesn't have a removable bios anyway. Might be able to code it in somehow via mobo bios. Doubt it. But if anyone figures it out I'd be interested! 😉 BTW, with the Linux Router... It's super cool... You can run it headless. I just telnet into the IP address you can make little bat files to click on! 🙂 Or just one bat file with selections. Anyway, you can telnet into the machine and check the status or play around with Linux CLI... Pretty Cool. Not as cool as terminal services but... Good Enough! Better then Slanking out a keyboard, mouse and monitor just to make a few changes... 🙂

Yeah!!! They are Nude!!!! hehehe, matter of fact they are still sitting on the plastic bags they came with. Sigh....... Lazy...Lazy... But, I really haven't thought of a good way to mount them yet. I'm working on it!!!! I have a few scetches... Once I build something I'll take more Pics!!!

About the bike... I believe (havent checked in awhile) that you can still get the ez-1 on ebay for close to that price! 😉 And YES I ride it all the time! It's a cool ride. I hear they arn't making those anymore so... I am thinking of getting another one just in case I ride the crap out of it... 🙂 It does have it's issues. Tho, I'd probably get the Lt version. Since I didn't know if I would like this bike so I got the all steel version first.

Nice systems. (drool icon here) 😛

If/when you find a way to mount your boards, be sure to post it around here, because I'm sure lots of us could benefit from the info. 🙂

For those of us not yet of the Linux bent, there are programs like TightVNC to use to remotely connect to our various rigs and make changes. 😉

I agree that the ECS boards are great to work with - I know GeoffS has quite a few in his fleet - some he even bought from me. 😱

I am curious about the choice to boot with floppy though - is that just so as to run everything across the wire up to the SetiQueue server then? Or is the program making writes back to the floppy disk? If so, I'd think that speeds wouldn't be the best given the speed of a floppy drive.. or am I just still missing something?

My basement is in a constant state of flux, so caseless isn't really an option for me. Nice setup though - I'm glad you got it running. 🙂

Details Details. Sheesh, I guess I left out a few... The floppy holds only the Linux seti client + The SIS Network Drivers, and a really SMALL stripped down linux shell... I forget the exact size of all this but it almost takes up the entire floppy. There would be no way that you could get the actual seti wu data on the floppy that comes from seti-Q and is stored in the ram via network. You don't have to use seti-Q you could always log into seti via web connection but, I find that seti Q works best since sometimes it goes down or is really slow. The only down side to this is if you have a power bump you lose everything. Tho, the floppy will reload the client again but the data that was crunching in RAM is gone. I don't have these hooked up to a UPS. Don't know if I will hook them up. I have really good power I think I only lost power once since I've been in this house.

I few more details about the equipment.

I bought 10 Power Supplys, Sparkle 250Watt... I figure 250Watts would work since I am not using a really nice Graphics Card. And I don't have a Hard Drive or CD ROM hooked up. So that will save me about 80 or so watts. I think the motherboard/cpu fan are putting out around 80 wats that is even with over clocking a bit.

All motherboards are the Elite Group (ECS) K7S5A Pro boards.
1 = AMD 2200+ OC to 2400+ Using a Cooler Master ($10.00) CPU FAN.
4 = AMD 1800+ OC to 2100+ STOCK AMD CPU FAN (BOXED)
All are using crucial ram ... 1 Stick of 128MEG DDR PC3200 ? CL=3 ? Unbuffered ? Non-parity ? 5ns ? 2.5V ? 16Meg x 64

As you can see on the motherboard, I have the CL set to 2. RAM works fine so far.

With all systems overclocked and using decent power supply's I have not had one single crash yet. (Knock on wood)... Even with the boards sitting out in the open...

I know have all the boards overclocked so we shall see by sunday what I get out of them. 🙂

BTW, I am running seti on a windows machine. Free Ping is a windows program and is a great program for any network person that wants to see the status of his/her workstations or SETI clients 😉
