SETI: computer confusion

my athlon 2600 can eat a WU in a min of 4.8 hours and a max of 6.5 hours...
my pentium 4 2.8ghz eats them at a rate of 1 every 10 hours...

i am using the 2600 and letting the p4 sit and crunch SETI, nothing else...

why?

Are you using the GUI (screensaver) client, or the CLI (Command Line/text based) client.

If you are using the GUI one, then you should use the CLI one, it is about 40-70% faster than the GUI. Someone will be around soon with a link to instructions on how to set it up, I can't remember the link! 🙂

There are some nice add-on programs that work with the CLI that can give you the instant graphics/feedback, while not taking the huge penalty of processing the SETI GUI takes.

SETIWATCH, SETISPY, SETI DRIVER come to mind, and there are probably others.

I would think that someone who is in need of an instant affirmation would want to get those WUs processed as fast as possible. 😉😉

😀

Use the link in my sig to setup the CLI 3.03 with SetiDriver 🙂
You should be getting atleast 1 WU every 2hrs with that P4 :Q
If it's a P4 with HyperThreading, set it to process 2 WU's in setidriver and you should get a speed increase of about 25-30% 🙂

Yeah, as Ray says, if you're worried about speed, you want them to complete as quickly as possible, so the CLI is the only way to go. SetiWatch/SetiSpy/SetiDriver are very good client-side, and a SetiQueue can give you lots of cool stats as well 🙂 Check out some of the pages here for an idea of the stats you can get 🙂 If you wish to set up your clients to go through my queue, set it up for a Proxy server, address teamanandtech.d2g.com, port 5001
