Up to last night I was unsing the graphical client(hold you laughs plz :D) and after reading The Tom's Hardware Article that bd posted
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=39&threadid=200605 Thanks bd!

i deceided to try the cl client. My question is all I ever see is "Doing baseline smoothing", meaning it does not show the progree of the WU. Should it? All i get is a prompt. I look in task manager, and SETI is using all the idle time, so can i assume it processsing the WU appoppriately. I guess im kinda spoiled....use to being able to see it progress, and all the cool color were nice too..... :)
thanks

I too recently switched to the cmd line version. I use seti spy to check its progress. There is a link to setispy on the team anandtech web site:

http://hobbitt.worldkey.net/~seti/

I have found the cmd line to be a slight but noticable difference. My k63-450 averages 14-15 hours per WU. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower (especially when I am playing starcraft).

Yep, that's normal. You're not going to see any status with the CL client unless you use another program to monitor it. I use SetiWatch and SetiLog to keep track of my machines (both GUI & CL) at home and work. It's not flawless but it works fairly well.

SetiWatch/SetiLog: http://members.home.net/mloukko/SETI.html

You should really use SetiLog and the CL client together so you can put the switches in it to hide it or use a proxy such as SetiQ. You can also keep track of the GUI clients with SetiWatch but you do not get any historical data without SetiLog.

There's instructions on that page on how to set it up but if you need any help post back here!

You can also add -verbose to the end of the seti command line and it will output percentages to the screen. The default is to not have any output on progress.

If you add -verbose to the command line CLi v2.4 WILL show the progress.
BTW the graphical version is not much slower IF the 'blank screen ' setting is set to less than 5 mins & enabled

Robor

Tsk,tsk ,you should of known that ;) hehe

Doh! Jhutch you beat me to it ,just

thanks for the tips guys..are their any other switches i can use beside verbose. I also downloaded setiwatch and it works pretty well..its just that when i open it up, it syas seti has stopped proceesing. well thats nit picking, so everything works great, and i reduced my time by 50%. Sad thing is i have a cII533@840 and i used to take ~17hrs to complete a wu. I think the prob was my memory settings as well as using the graphical interface. So i changed my setting to 2-2-2 and enable sd ram precharge, and know im getting like ~8hr/WU
not bad eh!

Nice :)

BTW when the graphics are showing ,this roughly doubles your WU times (as you found out) ,the cpu expends roughly 1/2 it's power rendering the graphics!

create a shortcut to the client and then right click on the shortcut to change properties...
in the target column you should see something like this
"D:\My Files\SETI@home\setiathome-2.4.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe"
but will vary depending on where you put your client
to add the switch just add verbose after the quotes so it looks like this
"D:\My Files\SETI@home\setiathome-2.4.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe" -verbose
thats all to it

duh!!! I should have remembered that. It's just like running the
-console command on Half-Life. Thanks imhotepmp.

is there anyway to properly close the client? I always just click the X in windows and kill it. but when i do that, i can't type anything anywhere in windows. keystrokes don't respond. so i have to restart.

thanks for the help everyone.

go TEAM!!!

What???:Q weird! ,I hit the X on 3 machines running CLi & it has never caused me problems.
Try Ctrl+C
