SETI classic on a laptop....

My boss has finally had his aging PC (PIII 800) replaced with a new laptop ,a Pentium M 1.6GHz ,as you can imagine when I saw 'Pentium M' in the properites my eyes lit up😉.
We know how fast Pentium M's are at SETI 😀

Thing is ,though he was quite happy for me to run SETI on his desktop, he's not keen on his laptop because of the battery drain issue. But I think I could convince him if we can get SETI to shut off whenever the mains is pulled.
I'm sure I've seen this done but I can't quite remember how.
Btw I'd prefer not to use SETIHide as its very slugish on transmitting results etc ,though if thats my only choice I'll take it.

TIA 🙂

I asked about the same problem a while back, and it seemed the only way to do it was to use scheduled tasks to start Seti when the computer starts, and then check the box that turns off the scheduled task (seti in this case) when the computer is on battery power. I never go to test if this works because I still dont' have a battery for the laptop I've got seti on, but it seems like it should. THe only problem with this method (at least in Win 98) was I could find no way to start seti minimized, so he'll just have to minimize it everytime the computer starts up, which isn't really a big deal.

True ,but that would annoy the boss.Couldn't you put '-min' in the command line?
Forgot to say .he's running Win XP

Thanks for the info 🙂

There's a little program I have but never use called HideIt. It sits in the taskbar and lets you hide any window. It also remembers what you hid before. So if seti started up, it would get hidden instantly. The only problem I see is that I'm using 1.1, and the new version 2.04 may require registration.

Also, I know SetiDriver won't work, and I doubt SetiHide would. The problem is that when Windows shuts down a task for battery power, it only kills the task it launched. SetiDriver launches a separate SETI window that doesn't die, and I think SetiHide might have the same problem. The best way to go would probably be a full SETI and SetiQueue install.

SETIQ?😕

Having the icon showing is not a problem ,how do you mean a full SETI install?

I see in SETIHides options that it has 'Terminate all active seti threads on exit' ,so that would be ok with task schuedler wouldn't it? (not that I really want to use SETIHide).
Also I thought SHide had a built in option to shut SETI off when on battery power ,but i can't see it,so I guess not🙁

Thx for ya input🙂

I thought so too, but when I went to check, didn't see any options like that either. 🙁
