Seti-BOINC web-server changed to http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/

1st, the URL to type into your BOINC-client(s) is still http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/

2nd, the web-pages is now http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/

3rd, the scheduling-server is still down, but hopefully it's debugged soon, so it's possible getting more work...

4th, some general BOINC-development-news:
Just a quick note to let everyone know what's in the works in BOINC development.

- I just checked in code that implements "heartbeat" messages
so that applications will exit in a few seconds
if the core client exits ungracefully
NOTE: this is a change to the core/app interface,
so it will require a major version increment (to 4.00)

- We're about to check in bulletproofing code that prevents
two applications from running in the same slot directory,
or accessing the same shared memory segment.

- Daniel Hsu (summer student) recently checked in code that
does time-slicing of applications
(i.e. applications of different projects will alternate
execution instead of running to completion).

- Daniel is also revamping the work-fetch policy in
a way that complements the new CPU scheduling.
See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/client_sched.php
for the gory details.

- Rom is making good progress on the cross-platform GUI
and will have something usable soon.

- I'm debugging trickle message (both up and down)
and will check in working version soon.

- Brian Boshes (summer student) is working on support
for upload and download of sticky files.

- Noaa Avital (summer student) is working on support for
application graphics under X11.

- Because of the SETI at home launch we're doing numerous
performance-related hacks (like allowing the assimilator
to have N instances, where each one handles only results
with ID == i mod N).

Thanks!

Still not able to fetch new work, though submitting does work and also gained some credits..
[edit]
I've never seen such a slow site as the boinc site right now.. this is terrible!
[/edit]

a guy on my seti team is telling me that his BOINC setup is telling him it will try next to download new work in 1 week 14 hours 58 minutes and 04 seconds

Thank RD,

I've just made the change in the Welcome Message (to new members) as you suggested. Now we just need some more new members. 😛 😀
