August 27, 2004 <BR>We are currently experiencing a hardware issue with our scheduling server, we expect this issues resolved within the hour. The upgrade to 4.x will start around 11am PDT and will take roughly an hour. Anybody who has any remaining results to report should get them in before the upgrade, after the upgrade you'll need the 4.x clients to report new results, and upgrading to the 4.x client will reset the project on your machine. Roughly 100,000 results are queued up and ready to be sent out after the upgrade, plus the three splitters will be up and running producing work as quickly as possible.

edit -- August 28, 2004
The migration plan has been reschedule for tomorrow the 29th at 10am PDT. We have brought down the scheduler and file upload handler until the migration happens to give the splitters and transitioners time to produce enough workunits and results to send out after the migration when the clients reset themselves.

Yes, UTC = GMT, and for this 18:00.

So hopefully they'll be back up at 19 UTC :)

Of course, any upgrade at Berkeley has a tendency to take longer than expected... But most can atleast now join CPDN while they're waiting, to have a second project to run then seti is down. ;)

CPDN has major version 4.05 availble for download Here

Maybe they are taking a page from other open source projects and making sure several mirrors have the program ready to go before opening the floodgates .

4.05 downloaded, installed and is trying to get units as we speak, now if only the scedulers would come up.

Will 4.05 run SETI though?
What I mean is, is v4.05 the same version that SETI are releasing?
These different versons that don't run all projects is getting confusing

the BOINC client is supposed to be a master framework that multiple projects can use to crunch thier data. there should only ever be one version of the core client, which will allow you to attatch to any project, or several at a time if you so desire.

4.05 saw my previous install and automaticly carried over my boinc data and settings. I did not have to re-attach to seti, nor did i have to input my account ID or the project seti url.

Bit the bullet and installed v4.05, didn't lose settings like you said, "SETI@home - 2004-08-27 21:28:17 - No schedulers responded" <sigh>
PS,
Where did that log file extract come from, I can't see it in your original post?
Edit:
See it now :)

What I meant was, when I read your post it wasn't there, but it was when I replied, must have caught you in the middle of an edit :)
Think I'll just disappear into my wine bottle :wine:

Just like all other software, new versions will be made, so it's not certain seti@home will not release a new v4.06-core client today. ;)
But as long as it's the same major-version, all projects can use the latest client atleast. :)

Hmm, it still doesn't look like they've taken the project down for the upgrade, therefore no new client to download either.

Well the last set of hardware issues have been resolved. Due to the time of day and other factors the upgrade will be delayed until at least tomorrow morning. We'll post the revised schedule as soon as plans have been firmed up.

Well, I installed V4.05 and found the following line on restart:

Predictor@home - 2004-08-28 07:56:42 - Message from server: To participate in this project, you must use major version 3 of the BOINC core client. Your core client is major version 4.

This is not a big loss to me because I only run one machine 50% on Predictor, but it does point out the need for coordination between all projects.

And no, Seti is still not responding, but it's still 5:00am out there...........they are probably still in the sack...................... :p :p

Predictor isn't planning to upgrade before after 2nd September atleast...

Still some hours before Berkeley hopefully can upgrade... Oh well, it's only one box that can't crunch CPDN.

Hmm, wtf does the forum insist on getting a message-title now...

After fixing a few inevitable gotchas, we are back up with the major version upgrade to 4.x. The servers may be slow in responding as all clients will be getting a new supply of work. Everyone will need to download a new core client.

Then the scheduling-server at last answered, got 8 "results", and for once to the correct box. :)
The other machines is (slowly) crunching along on CPDN, while waiting for seti-work.

BTW, roughtly 1 hour ago
Actually we got the number of results to send out to 500k...

With another 100k to 200k waiting to be processed...
