SETI: Berkeley seems to be down

I think you did, so now you have to make repairs 🙂

Another 2000+ dump before the weekend is over will be fair 😛

The Rebel Alliance q has 20 WUs waiting to be sent. Good thing we have 700WUs waiting to be crunch.😀

Yep backing up here too. Too bad too cause I took a cruncher down to play with installing mandrake 9
trying to get some stuff to work and now I can't get the client to download from berkley.

Oh well it was only good for 2 units a day and I got that today anyway.

Cool I found the linux client i686 static or i386 static So I'm crunching again on the dual cpu.

Yeah.. me too.. 🙁

Looks like I may be re-installing D2OL soon than I'd planned just so machines don't sit idle.

Now there's irony for ya..

Networkman if you need work units I think we can spare some Let me know and i can send you the Q setting if you want.

Berkeley's back up, just got a few new WU's to process 😀

<--Doubles his cache size 🙂

They started a network fiber relocation process down on campus today. Unbeknownst to them, the hill fiber [SSL is on the hill] runs through that junction box and was cut at that time. They were able to bring the network back up at 7:45 PST.

geez, doesn't Bezerkely know there are races going on!😛 they need to get their cables in a row.

this recent "on again, off again" reminds me why I set up my own Q. kind of gets me reminicing(sp??)........

.....I remeber it like it was yesterday, about a year ago, I just got my first Milestone. the Seti servers were down again, which was pretty normal back then, and I was trying to get my shiney new 'puter😀 up and crunching(my 3rd🙂). I had seti and setidriver all loaded up but couldn't get them "primed" to start crunching.🙁 so I set off investigating this "setique" program I kept hearing about....................blah...........blah......

...blah....blah..........so now I have my personal stats machine and I never run out of WUs.😀

Here are the latest e-mails that I have received. These definitely concern the SETI web site, but I don't know how the server is routed.

<About today's outage>

Connectivity from evans to SSL was lost again last night, from about
2:30am to 6:30am. It has been restored, and we'll continue to monitor
today. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience.

<About Saturday's outage>

Today, there was an unscheduled outage affecting Space Sciences
Lab, Lawrence Hall of Science, and the SETI@home program. This
outage lasted from about 9:30 AM until 8:00 PM and was caused by
scheduled construction work that disabled an undocumented section
of fiber that linked the abovementioned sites with campus.

Fortunately, additional strands of fiber cable were run along a
different pathway to the same sites. However, it took three CNS
staff members a considerable amount of time and energy to route
the appropriate links over the new fiber. We were able to restore
connectivity around 8pm as mentioned.

The current setup is rather temporary, and we will be working over
the next several weeks to make a more permanent transition to the
newer fiber. The "old" fiber link will be restored as
well. There may be some minor outages as we make these
transitions; however, those will be pre-announced.
