Seti and software CPU cooling

If RAIn or similar programs have a higher priority than SETI (or RC5), they will signifiacntly slow down or stop output.

Rain doesn't have a higher priority than SETI ,you can leave it on so that if SETI stops for some reason you have Rain there to throttle back the cpu.When SETI is running Rain does nothing ,it hardly uses any resources so I leave it on.
 
Hi poopaskoopa, If heat is a problem with your CPU then you shouldn't be running S&H in the first place. Otherwise, I would take off RAIN and any other non-necessary programs such as Motherboard Monitor (most BOIS' have this functionality) so that they do not take ANY of your precious resourses. I even pause Task Scheduler so that it doesn't try to do a Defrag or Scandisk while I'm running S@H.

Sounds kinda like turning up the oven and opening the fridge door.. I used to mess with cpu cooler progs, but once into DC I felt no need to run more than required. Guess it comes down to what your after, a cold CPU or more WU's. I wonder about cpu cooler progs, when using them and not crunching any numbers (normal use without DC) the cpu temp is up and down like a fart in a jar. When I run DC projects the cpu hit 90*F and stays there, no matter what else you do. I wonder what kind of component stress is involved with constant temperature fluctuations as opposed to a constant temp? I think a good cooler (heat sink) is the most important part of your unit.
