Unless they be shy of course.....

I put my modem in a co workers computer (Diamond SupraMax winmodem) to get him connected...also put my old Athlon 600 and mainboard in it too but thats another story.....

Anyway...got to thinking....SETI was missing my cpu cycles that the winmodem was lovin' on while surfin the net so I'm running a US Robotics Performance Pro (hehe...56k and performance in the same thought) now.........

To make a short story long....my SETI crunching has probably improved 0.002% !!!!!!!! :D

Those aliens make ya spend money.....green money.....

Dial up modems, don't get me started. I remember one of the first broadband commercials(rr maybe), where the whole neighborhood was throwing their old 56kers out their apartment windows. I remember patiently unscrewing my internal modem to see what was wrong this time, then spontaneously picking it up & trying to sling it out the living room window. Of course I missed, & left a nice little nick in the wall. That didn't stop me from actually opening the window this time, & watching the source of all my fustration, fall to the concrete below.

I didn't touch the internet for close to 2 years after that. Not till aol started showing there ugly face around. How I overcame that addiction is a whole other story.

lol , I remember when I 1st ran SETI (Oct 99) & I ditched my software modem for a hardware modem ,I was hoping that SETI might run a tad quicker;) ,I didnt notice any change but my ping times came down:).
Did the same to my mothers rig & she was able to stay connected for longer than 5mins!
