SETI: A Request

RaySun2Be

As exciting as the race is with BBR for me, and all the fantastic recruiting for SETI, Team Anandtech is a family of many projects.

So let's find a way to reduce the number of SETI topics. While our DC bretheren have been gracious so far, I'm concerned that our fellow teammate's other DC Project topics are getting trampled in all of the SETI excitement.

Team Anandtech is involved with many great projects, with lots of good stuff happening in each. I just want to make sure that each can be heard/read here on the forum.

Thanks!

Ray

P.S. don't make me use my cane. I'd rather save it for BBR. 😛

😉

😀

Lets not forget Anandtech is lucky enough to have two first place teams of which neither is seti. I for one would like to keep it like that ( Unless we can get more first place teams )🙂

😀 Hmm ... I guess you're right! But on the other hand you've got to see that this SETI action is not going to last forever. As soon as we are in a safe lead ahead of BBR the threads will get less and the DC forums will return to normality. But in this heat of the moment I think you can't blame the SETI ppl for their enthusiasm.

So please be patient with the friends of E.T.!! 🙂

So please be patient with the friends of E.T.!!

They have been. All I'm saying is, the enthusiasm is great, but let's be considerate of our fellow teammates running other projects. 😀

🙂 U might also wanna keep in mind that lots of ppl (including myself) actually have withdrawn from other DC projects to help the SETI race. I for my part just finished a climateprediction.net run and wanted to give SoB or F@H a try when the call to arms arrived at my fleet base. So ... once the SETi hype and race is over I'm pretty sure that these ppl will return to their old DC projects again --> the forum will be at normality again

Greets

PS: one more: if SoB or F@H or whatever other DC project of TeAm should ever be in a similar situation like SETI is now, I'm 110% sure that all the SETI guys will rush to help as well!!! 😀

I'm not sure that reducing the number of topics is neccessary.... it is best to search to see if a question has already been asked, but I dont think there is anything wrong with posting a question or comment if you feel the DC community would be interested in hearing it.

I agree. I'm donating CPU time to seti for the "race" so if I see alot of seti threads for the time being I'm not "too" upset. Though I also agree it shouldn't be to the detriment (sp?) of other projects/teammates.

Let me state that the number of threads is mostly my fault.

That said, I will say in my defense that it is extremely difficult to keep track of receiving 100s of new members a day. Posting seperate threads throughout the day helped me keep track of where I had started and where I had left off. I will tell you that it is not easy keeping up with something like that. Each thread I posted took at least an hour to two hours to complete all the notifications and welcome emails to the new members as well as their mentors. I basically spent most of my holidays at a keyboard typing, cutting and pasting and searching through lists to find names and email addresses. Some days I spent as much as 10-12 hours doing this.

Now, I am not complaining. I would gladly do it again because it has made us a much stronger TeAm. I don't mean just Seti either. Seti I will be drawing to an end soon. People will be looking at other projects to crunch and the diversity of the TeAm will continue. We all know that many of the people who come in to crunch Seti move on to other projects.

I want to take this time to thank all TeAmmates no matter what project for your support in this cause. In particular, I would like to thank the SOB team for organizing support with your own Seti account. I personally promise that it will be paid back. ARS may think they can come back from Seti and take what is ours away from us, but I promise that will NOT happen.

Thanks for your work! Im sure we all appreciate it! I know I do.

Also, what would be important to note, is to try avoid replying to all of crazee's threads at once. They were usually separated nicely, but when they all get bumped at the same time, it looks overwhelming on the front page 🙂

Agreed!

And...I nominate Crazee for elite!!

I'm sure a lot of TeAm members from the other projects are cheering our Seti1 team on in this last final great push over the top - and people on those projects should be expecting that when Seti1 finally ends there will be a flood of new blood into their ranks.

I'm personally not at all impressed with Boinc yet, and I myself might want to move my fleet into another project within TeAm Anandtech. There are a lot of Seti people who will be doing that.

So everyone should have a  & chill & cheer on Seti1 until the end of the race!
Sixth place in the world on a project that has nearly 5 million users is great! We would be happier at 5th of course 😉

Within a month or two F@H, SOB & the others should see a lot of us joining their ranks.
If nothing else as payback for helping us out in our time of need! 😀

I'm sure many of the new members that are being listed in the Seti Welcome threads will be looking for another project once Seti1 ends. This is good for the entire TeAm, not just Seti. We are more than just Seti here, everyone knows that. Seti enjoys a lot of attention right now because of the big push to the end and because of the large number of active members.

Members on other projects should be looking forward to the time in the near future when many active Seti members will be looking for a new projects to join. Seti members are very active and will be a great addition to your part of TeAm Anandtech!

For right now we need to focus on "ending well" in Seti1.

Anyone who wants to temporarily leave other projects to help us with Seti1 will be compensated. I myself will join my fleet to their project and do at least an equal amount of work for them after the end of Seti1 and I am sure there are many more like me who would be happy to do this.

We did this for OGR & other projects, it's a good thing and we should be doing it now too.

Lets help each other out & work together as a TeAm. 😀

I second that nomination. Will deserves the title to go along with the work he's doing! Thanks Will! 😀
