Seti + a HL Dedicated Server ?

I've been running Seti on my linux server all by it's lonesome. The server has been pretty much just a box for the last few months. Mail server that is very rarely used, MUD server I use for coding purposes, etc.. Just wondering how well it would operate both Seti@Home and a HL Dedicated Server .. and performance lags at all ?

Can't really help you as I don't even know what HL dedicated server is😱 ,but I do know whoever can answer you will want to know which rig its on ,is it the PIII 800,P4 1.7GHz on SDRAM🙂P) or the P4 2.8GHz?😎

Not gonna happen. HLDS requires the ability to take CPU as more players are added to the server, and Seti pretty much takes up your CPU. You'd have one laggy server if you tried to run both at the same time.

Wouldn't SETI just back off as HLDS needed more power?

That's what I was sorta thinking .. setting the priority a bit lower and letting SETI cut it back as HLDS sucks more up.

BTW .. My linux box isn't in my rigs list for some reason .. I'll add it one of these days. It's a P4 2 ghz 256 mb PC2100 DDR

I guess HL means HalfLife?

I've personally never played this in network, but I've run both Unreal & tournament (the original) and quake2/3, and there's no problem running these alongside seti. 🙂
Of course, since I'm still on slow internet, I've only run in LAN with at most 2 machines connected, and maybe some bots... Uhm, and my fastest graphics-card is a G550. 😱
Oh, and it's on windows, but this should most likely not be a problem.

Of course, all games leads to less seti-production, so regarding this the machine will lag... 😉
