hi,

after a few hours building i have my system almost running, but after
everything worked flawlessly out of the box i encountered a minor problem
where i didn't have time to solve that yesterday.

The system AMD XP1800, Dragon+, Radeon 8500 Retail, Bios 2BA1, right now in
bios everything is set to *Default*, 133 FSB, 133 RAM..no overclock...no ram
tweaking (Cas is 2.5)...reserved one IRQ for AGP.

In Bios i disabled all USB devices, disabled Parelell port and disabled the
Promise/RAID and LAN.
(I have a Maxtor IDE on IDE1 and dont use RAID).

The only component in my system right now are the Radeon 8500 gfx card in
AGP and the onboard sound which is ENABLED right now.

POST tells me i have an IRQ 11 on my graphics card AND on 'multimedia
device' (soundcard).

* Problem:

I am almost 85% into my fresh Win98 installation from CD where there is the
screen saying
"Now configuring your hardware and plug and play devices (if any)"

After about 30 secs. the system freezes at this point. On the same screen in
win98 installation it says "In case the system doesnt respond anymore just
switch off the PC and restart" - but then the same thing happens again.

I have an idea what it is (will try tonight)...but maybe someone knows what
i can do to continue my fresh win98 install today.

Btw....i am very amazed with the dragon+'s quality....i was also especially
surprised to boot up my system the first time and
find that it had the 2BA1 bios (11/3/01) already, so i didn't have to flash
!!! (Cool..since i was afraid of a power outage, we had a bad storm
yesterday)

Check the Log Files
-------------------

Another troubleshooting method that may help to determine the cause of the issue
is to examine the Setup log files. Three files are created during Setup:

- Detlog.txt. This log file lists the start of the detection test and the test
outcome. This is a hidden file located in the root folder of drive C.

- Detcrash.log. This file records which detection steps were successfully
completed so that Setup does not hang on the same step again. This is a
hidden file that is created only if the detection step caused the computer to
stop responding. This file is located in the root folder of drive C.

- Setuplog.txt. This file records what takes place during Setup, including
successes and problems. It is used by Safe Recovery to determine where Setup
should resume. This file is located in the root folder of drive C.

30 sec halt is not a long time. Have patience, leave for at least 10 minutes after the halt in case there is actually processing happening that you cannot see b4 deciding it froze.
