set up an FTP

I have one of those stupid Motorola Cable Modem's with the built in Wireless. My desktop is on the wired port and the laptop is wireless. I understand routers and such, but I'd never attempted to set up an FTP with one of these. I installed one and connected with my laptop fine. I'm not 100% sure what I did, as I initially was bored and thought "this won't work" but it did.

I tried again and no dice on connecting, I didn't set up anything different on the Modem to get it to work in the first place. What do I need to do to make this work again? I have a buncha files I want to copy over and can't set up a home network since there's no router involved.

Or can I? lol, what's the best way for me to x-fer pics from one PC to another? Don't really want to go out and buy a router.

Ihave very Good News.

Your Modem is actually a Modem/Router combo.

So what ever you did there has nothing to do with a need for a Router.

I can not give you more advice cause you did not described what, and how you set up the ftp.

If you just want to share files this might help.

Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared.
