My GF's parents are still on AOL dialup. I've been trying to convince them for years to switch but they're reluctant.

There's a lot of people out there who still associate the internet with AOL. This could actually be a good move for Yahoo, assuming the deal basically amounts to Yahoo absorbing/replacing a most AOL services with their own. They'd get some cash out of it, a larger chunk of search engine market share, and get MS off their backs. They'd also end up with AIM which would give them access to a huuge number of users that they could potentially lure into using their other services. Plus it could lead to better integration between AIM, YahooIM and MSN Messenger.

I'd prefer this to MS and Yahoo at least. I can see Yahoo actually making AOL better while I can only see MS royally screwing up Yahoo.

Yahoo was turning into the next AOL already. This generation's Yahoo fans are only getting older, and Google is attracting far more younger folk than Yahoo.

Google = for 20-somethings
Yahoo = for 30-somethings
AOL = for 40-somethings and older

My dad is 50 and he uses Google and has had high speed internet for years. He also has 2 HDTVs.
