set of JPEG Filters in Win98... help if you can!!

Not sure if this belongs here, or in Software, but here goes....

Got a problem on a buddy's machine displaying JPEG's in Internet Explorer, and Windows Explorer. I tried Replacing some of the Filters that were installed by office97, with the original Windows ones. Netscape Displays Jpegs fine, as well as his Photo Editing software. It's just Internet Explorer, and Windows Explorer. I got the feeling that they are corrupted,(actually more than a feeling!) Ran Virus Scans, Scandisks, etc.....
Re-Installed the Browser, etc. Was wondering if anyone knows of a set of replacement filters that can be downloaded. is this enough Info??

Tried reinstalling Office97? Make sure that you have the JPG filters selected. Even better.....install/upgrade to Office 2000.

we tried the office 2000 upgrade, and same thing.
this is definately one of the weirder things to happen to me in along time.
(well this week anyway!!)
tried all the obvious, and a lot of un-oobvious things......
i'm baffled......

I think your idea of wierd is a little different then most people's.

Oh, and I have no clue about the jpeg thing.
