I just got home, and my computer's showing this BSOD. I'm still researching it; just wanted to get a jump on the forum for any responses. Tried Safe Mode - that just brings me to the error quicker. Last Known Good configuration didn't help. It pops up just as Windows looks to be bringing up the desktop.
What the heck is the deal with this?

Microsoft's site isn't helping thus far - "If you receive any of the Phase 1 initialization Stop messages listed in the Table C.2, reinstall Windows XP Professional and try to initialize it again."
This error seems to qualify as a Phase 1 Stop message. There tends to be a better solution than reinstallation though.

More research indicates it might be related to ntdll.dll. Off to the recovery console I go.

Fixed. Moral of the story - ntdll.dll is important. Don't try to mix a Service Pack 2 version of ntdll.dll with a Service Pack 1 install.

Reason for this - CDex was crashing on me, reporting ntdll.dll as the problem. A SP2 system didn't exhibit this, so I figured I'd try using that ntdll.dll file. It didn't work - CDex still crashed. This however was the first time I was rebooting the system in maybe a week, and it barfed the BSOD on bootup.

I can't register at the CDex forums to post about a possible bug here, as I never get the confirmation e-mail. No idea what's up with that; I have no spam filters, so that's not it. Those forums (and CDex it seems) are dying off.

nice that you posted the fix. you may want to edit the title as well. Nice to see you fix instead of format!

Also nice to know that it wasn't because of a patch or some stupid Windows screwup - just a good old user error.
