Hey guys and gal, newbie here.

I've been running Win2k for a few months close to a year now and whether it's this OS or it's predecessors (win95/98) I've never onced downloaded the SP's that Microsoft had offered. Aside from addressing security issues, do these SPs remedy the BSOD or at the very least minimize them ?

I really don't know why there is a need for Service Pack, some email and secuirty issues notwithstanding.

Thanks

SPs generally are the combined windows update (plus some others) bugfixes; they sometimes offer new functionality as well (particularly with the NT service packs (SP4 anyone? 🙂)) and greater/more featured functionality. They do have the ability to remedy instability if the particular hardware/software that's causing you problems or your specific issue has been addressed in the service pack.

Are they worth installing? In most cases, yes. Will you survive without installing them (especially if you keep up with windows update)? In most cases, yes.

What she said. 🙂 I would tend to say if it isn't broken... With win 2k or NT though, there are a ton of security holes that people discover and MS patches. In the end only you can decide.
